Why?
People buy the game to enjoy it. If you do not enjoy such a major mechanic, you shouldnt be forced to deal with it. Even if its early access and devs already pointed it out. Not everyone is a "nerd" listening to every dev-talk. Some people just want to play the game and have fun. And if they therefore want to turn of the base raid mechanic - let them. Nobody gives a sh*t whether you play the game with our without it. This would make everyone happy. Or are there people that only feel good playing the game, when they know, that others suffer with changes they can easily deal with?
kind of sad really..if it was requested and is enjoyed by people fine. no one ever said it shouldnt be in the game...just that we should be able to chose so everybody can play and have fun playing...
Insects take also notice of you when you're in their territory. But a friend and I had that happened to us the other night and we were doing well killing off the weavers but eventually got overwhelmed. They wrecked about 1/2 our base but for some reason we actually enjoyed it lol.
Immediately after we did the Mix.r in the grassland to get the watchdog buff. Haven't had a raid since getting the mutation so can't comment on how good it is. Though we're close to getting turrents. Personally I think they need to allow us to get access to turrents sooner. Either from Hedge or Haze lab instead of assist manager and chest on picnic table.
I like the idea of (once in a blue moon) base raids and enjoy them in Valheim. But in Grounded I've mostly felt they were a painful chore. You spend hours building your base how you like then it's quickly smashed and you have to look forward to the dull grind to rebuild it.
Sure, I could build a small fortified brick on a rock and avoid hitting faction bugs in the head with a rock to avoid antagonising them... but it's not a fun way to play. And why build a game about ants unless you can antagonise them?! (I hope they add a devastating magnifying glass weapon which only works in sunlight...)
I'm leaning towards restarting and turning off base raids completely, which is a shame. I'm sure they're more fun in multiplayer and it'd also be quicker to rebuild, but currently it's not much fun. Obviously Grounded is still in development and they might find a better balance between exploration, base building, and base raid mayhem. Or they might introduce some sliding options so the player can reduce the frequency and ferocity of raids to their liking. Because I'd like to stand on the grass ramparts of my base hurling peblets onto the soft skulls of my insect adversaries.... but without the chore of rebuilding a base that took tens of hours to construct. That's what the repair tool should be for.
Base raids sort of forces you to slow down a bit, instead of rushing to build a mega base you have to be smart about it at first. Build a temporary small defendable base, perhaps one on top of the baseball or the likes. Then as you work your way up through progressing into T2 you can think about building the fortress you like. As it would be much eaiser to defend in better gear and with turrents.
Honestly, in my solo game and already did the hedge, haze, pond labs and I've yet to be raided. But I've progress enough that my main base near the pond/tree is pretty well defendable. Needless to say I am not worry about raids anymore. In fact I'm eager for one lol.
On my MP campaign the base defense was much much easier (too easy) than it was prior to the recent patch.
30+ ants to the slaughter, as I stood above sending arrows into their eyes. But the combat music didn't stop, even when they eventually ran out of ants. I even ran around my base looking for stragglers but couldn't find any. As the game remained "in combat" I couldn't save my game... I eventually logged out and hopefully it forced a save game.
I gotta say... the base raid is kind of fun. But the base reconstruction isn't, it's so painful - I can't cut down anymore blasted weeds. The ants win... they can have this base. It's trashed anyway. Well played, ant Queen.
I recently found the skeletal explorer in the room filled with ant heads on spikes. At first I didn't understand... But now, brother, I do.
Also be sure to place the pebble turrents on the walls so they can't be attacked.
Yeah, unfortunately I don't have turrets yet. I had partially built on a rock with pebble-clay floor and stem walls. I filled the inside of the lower floor with spiked logs... so that it wouldn't accidentally aggravate wandering ants, only harm those attacking. It worked quite well, as I stood on the rock level and shot down into the foyer, safely at close range, aiming for the eyes. However the ants chewed through my walls and floor pretty smartly... (not surprising given how many there were.)
Due to the body count of the raid I had plenty of ant heads, so I threw caution to the wind and staked them all around what is left of my base. Time will tell if it's a deterrent... or it unleashes Antmageddon.
even if it did deter ants, I highly doubt it would work that way during a raid, seeing as they are angry and determined to destroy your base and then you
Pebblet turrets? Thought turrets needed to be manned by players. Do they work by themselves without anyone manning them?
No they need to be manned but they do good damage and can quickly kill mobs, especially if you're not in top end gear.
It was fun while it lasted.
not strictly true... in normal mode games you can change the overall difficulty level mid game. custom games do allow the player to change many more options, mid game, however... including turning off factions/raids.
as a casual player, I'm ONLY playing custom games atm... normal mode is just too annoying to put up with
