Playing through grounded again question about weapons
So I’m trying to get my final 3 achievements in this game and I’m just wondering are any of the later weapons any good, I always end up using the salt morning star for salty, the spicy coaltana for spicy the mint mace for fresh and level them all up to 9 as soon as I can, there is loads of weapons locked to the upper yard that I’ve never used really as they don’t seem to be any better then those in terms of damage dealt and the grind to find mints spicy shards salt is a real grind I find digging up treasure randomly hoping it’s what I need, so is any of the upper yard stuff better then what I have or should I just stick to those, what else do people use, also I make my ox hammer salty and my termite axe spicy

First of all, relying on buried chests is a terribly ineffective way of farming flavoured shards for upgrades.

A cave in the middle of the sandbox offers all the salt you may ever need and then some more.

Around the yard you will find various candy boxes, each with some candy inside/nearby. They do respawn too (I'm not sure just about mints respawning).

Indeed, once you get and upgrade mint mace, salt morning star and spicy coaltana you're more than good for 95% of your encounters. Other options that may be worthwhile IMO are:
- Minty rust spear, to quickly fight your way through the termites nest;
- Sour battleaxe, great damage against most enemies AND works as chopping tool;
- A maxed out black ox crossbow with splinter arrows is very helpful to hunt scarabs for their shells, because you one-shot them so they can't flee.
- Black widows resist most kinds of damage, so you may want a weapon that deals generic damage (in example the Broodmother club) to deal with them.

I can't tell about daggers because I almost never use them, I prefer bigger weapons dealing quick DPS.

It's more about preference tbh.

You can go (especially after the new changes/super duper update)

Crit build isn't bad
Summoner build is fun
Bow builds
Candy magic staffs

etc. heck, my first playthrough I went through like half the upper yard with just the tiger mosquito rapier as my main weapon (yes I know it isn't great but I was stupid on my first playthrough) game really leans hard into the typical DND type playstyle where you have an archer, wizard, warrior etc. so the other weapons really just come down to "I like this playtstyle more"

Yeah I suppose there is just so many weapons I’ve never tried before as the damage just doesn’t seem any better by the time I unlock them like the tick weapon and the toenail weapon or the rusty spear but maybe I will give them all a go once I get them unlocked but like I said by the time I got them most of my usual weapons are level 9 anyway and I do like the battle axe but it’s such a late game weapon by that point I only really need it for the ending

I have found the opposite where none of the boxed candy respawns. My only mint and spicy shards at this point the scanner finds is from chests or an occasional buried single piece to break up. Certainly nothing like initial spawns. Salt is the only one that spawns in decent quantity in the Antlion cave. Sour is even rarer for me. I have never seen any of those respawn. Stuck getting random ones underground or from chests.

Ok, I tried looking around, and not even the unofficial wiki is clear about that.

What I'm absolutely positive about, is that I've seen spicy candies respawn in multiple locations (most recently, inside the brawny boy bin).

While on the other hand, mint candies apparently never respawn inside or near their boxes. Isolated mints are said to respawn elsewhere, but honestly I can't think of where to check (I only recently resumed my playthrough after a several months break).

As for sour candies, they may not respawn near their boxes, but again, I've seen at least one respawn for sure (inside the Christy toy car).
