From the reviews it sounds like coop only works with xbox live friends, and not steam friends.

Correct, it does work with xbox live friends. It even tells you that if you want to play multiplayer you have to log into xbox live.

ok, thx for clearing that up, definitely not gonna get that crap if they try to release on steam but don't utilise the steam api while they're at it

Nope does not work with xbox online friends, tried it several times and it wont let you invite them to game.

i was able to host a game but i didnt have anyone to invite my friend is at work so i cant test it yet this definitely concerns me

Figured it out, you have to create a lobby and stay in the character select screen, then get your friends to join lobby, it will say none found, then they have to search up friends that have a lobby open and voila, what a palava but thats how you get it to work.

This. Works. It's kinda odd but then again...when you've played a couple of Windows Store exclusives you'll get used to this strange lobby mechanic I guess.

ahh yeah thought so, ironically i see no complaints on sea of thieves about having to use xbox, maybe a couple, i know this was an xbox game purchasing it, its funny how many did not realize

A lot of players think because they buy it on Steam, it's a steam release without looking to see who the publisher is. Ubisoft? It's on the Ubisoft store. EA? Origin. Microsoft? Xbox Store. The benefit of getting something on Steam and having to use a third party launcher is that you can still use your steam window options. It can be inconvenient, but people expect to be told and handed everything without researching or at least taking 10 seconds to look. It's a bit sad.
