I get by with a basic roast of something (weevil, aphid, etc) twice a day. Once in morning, once toward evening. Maybe one extra if it’s an extremely heavy combat or building day but no more. And that’s on Whoa difficulty.
I did not, no. I was on medium. I'll have to find this badge and maybe a few more milk molars top up my stamina. I've thought about it and maybe thats my problem: my stamina hasn't been upgraded so the faster it drains, the more food I consume? I don't know
You don't want the badge that was mentioned. That drains your food faster, but in exchange regenerates your health. It got mentioned because that could have been a reason your food was dropping so fast.
Between that and the simple bed buff that reduces your hunger and thirst drain by 10% for the day you shouldn't need to eat or drink again until the following day. It sounds to me like you just aren't using the better tools the game gives you and thought the basic campfire would be the perfect solution to food forever, I haven't even touched mine since I got the drying rack.
As someone who saves the fancier meals for more dangerous situations cause I hoard resources 2 basic roasts a day are fine even on Whoa. I still use basic campfire every day and that's at around 200 in game days on that file so far.
Usually I am just eating aphids that I whack while running here or there. It helps to figure out when you should cook an aphid before bed and it will still be good in the morning, or sometimes you could leave it raw and cook it in the morning.
Milk Molars I spent to unlock more mutations first. Then I use mutations to boost stamina is my default
If I was doing a more realistic custom game, I would probably leave thirst at 1x, drop hunger and the day/night cycle speed to 0.5x.
i keep the team fed, they're the ones doing the work anyways.
idk build like 5 roasting fires and keep them loaded with food. this kitchen never closes lmao.
So here's a basic rundown of how any session starts:
Login (I typically log out at base)
Check Water and Food levels. If they were full before I logged out, I'm good.
Check inventory. Canteen should be full (6/6 for Charcoal Canteen. Should have at least one boxed meal ready to go, if not, take one from the fridge. If it's too early in-game for a fridge, I'm making one to take with me.
Once I have full meters and at least one spare meal, I set off on my adventure. If I get hungry along the way, I look for Mushrooms or Aphids and make a quick meal of them.
Hints:
Using Spicy weapons will cook Aphids, Weevils and Gnats before you actually collect them, so just kill and eat.
Using Salty weapons will reduce Aphids, Weevils, Gnats and Tadpoles to Jerky, which can be carted about indefinitely.
That's pretty much all there is to it. Either keep materials on hand to throw together a cooking spit, or carry Jerky or Mushrooms as these don't go bad, and/or a boxed meal and just keep an eye on the spoilage timer.
