Weapon types
How do they work? Is it a flat damage on top of the weapon's damage, does it convert the weapon's damage type, or what?

if a weapon has multiple damage types the full damage is counted as both types, if you have a trinket that gives bonus damage of a certain type that is added as flat damage

So for the trinket, if something resists said type, does it still do additional damage, just resisted?

Went ahead and tested this for ya on some antlion volunteers. They resist chopping, fresh, and spicy. I used sour battleaxe with and without spicy trinket and then tried my old spicy antlion greatsword with and without spicy trinket. Using only first hit of the combo, no combat perks equipped. Whoa difficulty.

For the sour battleaxe it was the exact same number of hits both times. However, the antlion did have slightly less health before the final hit with the trinket implying it did do more damage.

For the antlion greatsword the difference between with and without the trinket was 2 hits. However, I really count it as 1 hit as the first one had that thing where the opponent has zero health for the final hit and a thrown pebblet would have probably killed them.

So in conclusion, yes, trinkets do give you more damage when the trinket is resisted. But frankly the increase is so small it's really not worth using over a better trinket of some kind.

Each weapon has its own unique type of damage, and you can actually look this up if you hover your cursor over each weapon in your crafting menu. You can also look them up in the Grounded Wiki.

Examples of damage include: stabbing, blunt, and slashing. These will come with the weapon when you first craft it. You can then enhance the weapon or build better versions of it once you advance in the game and get the recipes. Enhancements include strengthening the weapon with, say, whetstones; or adding damage bonuses with things like candy pieces or salt. Adding, say, sour candy to a weapon (you need to strengthen the weapon at least 6 times first) will have it cause sour damage in addition to its regular damage. Same with spicy, fresh, or salty damage.

For all of that, you'll definitely need a blacksmith's anvil and everything you need stored nearby. For example, my brother's and my main HQ in this game is a huge castle I built next to the Frankenline, and the Gatehouse's first floor serves as our armory and weapons workshop. I've stored everything you could possibly need to build weapons, armor, and even building materials in there. However you build your bases is up to you, but I definitely recommend an armory/weapons workshop at your #1 base when you get the chance to build it.
