I am on a new Whoa run, so I don't need my tower yet, but I will play with it this weekend for sure.

As explained...
New/old, story/creative, solo/shared - doesn't seem to matter.
I get the same results, unfortunately.
I have one playthrough from before the yard was complete, that I've maintained through patching.
With roughly 400+ hours in it, it's honestly the only run I care much for.
I guess play will need to try again, after dev team fixes this...
Which might take weeks, considering x-play update approval time guidelines.
Maybe with it just being M$, an update will roll out faster.

It was a 1.2 Multiplayer save, that I converted to a local save in 1.3. That's the only way I can think it would be different than anyone else's save files.
I moved to a new computer not that long ago, so I only have that one save file to play with, when I played with a friend very briefly, like 10 hours.
To avoid being shot out on the 'up' wall use;
'1/2 height wide Grass walls' OR 'Sturdy Grass walls'.
Everything else, has an edge that boops you out if you smack a lipped edge.
Na, you just hit the 'edges faster', thus pushing you away quicker or entirely halting 'up' momentum.
my skillpoints/molars are broken in my current save, so if those walls are smoother, then it might make starting fresh a little less painful. i'm still not ready to commit yet, but thank you for the tip!
