XBOX account required to play?

What a joke. XBOX account required to play online.

I just want to play with friends and I don't care if anyone cheats. Not interested in sharing any info with XBOX.

I don't get where you are seeing "nefarious plot" in not wanting to log into additional accounts to play video games that I already got through steam, a form of DRM.

It simply does not need to happen and nothing I spend money on should be asking me to jump through any hoops at all to use it.

I am happy to use windows. I am not at all interested in being involved with microsoft. I am aware of game pass. No interest.

As far as I know you can activate windows offline via phone support by giving them your serial and getting a code back from them. Start windows and opt not to make a MS account.

Anyway the requirement for any additional authentication is a no buy for me. Put that stuff in the retail box copy if you want but steam already is DRM.

If you hate it so much refund the game. You only played 6 minutes of it. But the fact that you havent refunded is weird. If the use of an xbox account makes you not want to play that would be an instant refund right?

It's not even an XBox account you need, but the Windows Live account that EVERY Win10/11 user automatically has, IF their windows is a legit version...

Totally agree, that window should be after one tries to play online, not at the start of the game. MS being agressive and intrusive? nah...xD

BTW, i wonder if that's the reason why the game doesn't close normally many times and have to wait a lot or directly kill the task. For what i have seen, this happens since 2020 at least...^^

That said, i find SP interesting and i am going to buy the game after trying it for free.

?? Not for Steam achievements, for sure. And as i said, i have found threads about game not closing normally since 3 years ago and even Obsidian has recognized this problem and has a specific page for this on their forums (basically "kill windows task" lol)

There are lots of topics where people don't unlock them unless they are logged in... Maybe they changed that with one of the last 2 updates, I got.most of them right after 1.0 and never logged out.

And no: I am a frequent forum visitor here since the EA release and it (closing issue) certainly is no "hot topic"...

I have searched what you said about achievements and it seems you are right, i think this is the very first time i see a game having Steam achievements and not unlocking unless you are signed into an external 3rd party account. That's awful, even more agressive tactics to make players sign into Xbox

About the other issue, i never said it was a common issue but it exists and Obsidian says it's because Unreal Engine. Whatever.

Edit: btw, they should clearly advice about the steam achievements needing the account at the store page, because now it's not just for MP.

THAT I agree with, as it's nothing different (imo) compared to games requiring installation of a 3rd party launcher..

Exactly. I know it's not too much, it's logging once from time to time to update achievements but it's forced and not explained anywhere in an openly way, like if Obsidian was trying to hide it or are not proud of that. Oh, and trying to log into a MS account can be a pain :S

I have never played it and don't own it. It was on a free trial so I downloaded it. Started it up and got a message about signing in and then alt-F4'd myself out and uninstalled.

Then I made my forum post.

I didn't realize that steam shows me as owning the game. I do not and have no access to it.
