Is there a way to get rid of a pet?

I made the mistake of making a gnat a pet. It is driving me crazy. It keeps bumping into me. It’s even killed me by knocking me off of a tree branch. I am nowhere close to being able to make a house for it. I’ve tried to kill it. I’ve tried to get it killed by madly dashing into combat. It doesn’t die. It’s there waiting for me when I respawn. I’ve tried to get it trapped in a room behind a door. It just magically reappears some time later. I’m at my wits end. Is there anything I can do short of restarting the blasted game from the beginning to get rid of it?

Do you have the “invincible pet” game setting on, by any chance? That might be it.

I don’t remember specifically turning that setting on. But I will see if I can find it.

Change the difficulty to "Normal"/"Woah!" and kill it

or

Build a pet house and store it there

Note: if you want to switch pet invincibility, and you want to KEEP achievements, do not switch to custom! I was on medium and needed to kill a pet aphid i created by accident.

1. Find the pet you want to kill
2. Change difficulty to "whoa!" and Accept changes
3. Kill your pet
4. Switch back

This allows you to keep achievements.
