Why are mods dead for this game?
On Nexus for example, all the mods are out of date and no longer work. They even removed it from Vortex! I like the game in general, and see the potential, but without mods for me to play my way with my boy, he has lost interest after only a couple of days. Have the devs shut down mods intentionally?

Most likely because the game has just received an update which is why mods are all outdated and need to be updated by the mod creators to work again for the current 1.2 version of the game.

It's not just this. In fact, I think that's one of the reasons it should have more mods - because it is stilled being worked on by the devs. Many of the mods stopped getting updated as of November last year. It seems the game has so much potential, but the lack of mods really kills the QoL in the current scheme of things.
this game is really well put together with good difficulty options you can turn off/on in custom game settings. what mods do you think the game is unplayable without?

That's all a matter of opinion. Movement speed for example, for such a large area, having to carry supplies from one end of the yard to the other, is really time consuming. Add to this multiple trips when you just want to build a small base and you have a couple of in game weeks just lugging gear. Increased inv space and/or options to transport would solve this. Simple fast travel would work. Or maybe you could grab an ant and load it up for example, but they are not there yet with these options. But this is one simple example. There are loads of "problems" but if you have the time and inclination to invest you can get past it. My boy does not. These sorts of things would be great for me to set my way - mods.
I swear to god... the Elder Scrolls Series, Fallout, Minecraft, Rockstar Games, etc. have absolutely spoiled people in the worst way. Mods just aren't that easy to make for a game, period, unless some form of support is given from the devs in the form of official tools or access to more game code. I'm so freakin tired of seeing people, who have absolutely no knowledge of game dev/mod creation, whinge about mods.

You just listed some of the best games ever made, and there's a reason for it. It's something Devs should do. Always. Ark is probably the most similar game (though much more advanced and "grown up", and there are loads for that. If you read my thread, I asked a question: Why? Is it simply a lack of tools? I doubt that's why, but then you're right I have only touched on modding, not done a big mod before. If that is the reason, then I can would certainly like to put it to the devs that this should be supported. I'm not about "whinging", I'd just like to understand why such a good looking game is not getting the attention I would have thought it would get.

Not every developer can put out tools like that, and imo it's unfair to ask it of them. Imagine pouring your passion into a game and 10 minutes after it's officially released, half the threads are: "modz wen?".

No one can seem to be satisfied with the experience the developers intended anymore because of those games I listed literally spoiled everyone into NEEDING the game to be tailored to their tastes. Look at you! "without mods for me to play my way" How insulting to the developers.
Been watching the modding scene for this game for a while. Every update breaks nearly every mod, then also they have adjusted the engine a couple of times too (last one was 1.1 i think). Each time the engine was done as well, modders would literally have to start from scratch instead of just briefly updating their file.
So in turn it put most modders off modding the game completely.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is on purpose though as there was mostly just cheaty mods being made. Hopefully if the devs do stop updating the game they do release some tools.

Ahh I see! Same thing happened with Bannerlord. Thanks for the info! It makes you wonder why they try so hard to get people into their game only partially done only to make it so difficult for players to keep it alive with mods until they get enough content sorted. Somewhat counter productive.

To be fair, I have modded almost every game I have played, right back from the original Doom, through to Baldurs Gate. The devs back then did not lock their code, so it was free for everyone to add their take on things. It's something that has changed over the years, and I understand why, but I like to customize things. If you buy a brand new car and like the seat, great, but if you don't you should be free to switch it out. It's no insult, it's just preference. It's just my opinion and the way I like to play. But as I said, this game was bought for me to play with my boy who is only 8 and struggles to cope when it gets tough or repetitive. And as I have more than one kid, I can't play the game with him all the time. Mods can allow me to play in a more suitable way for me.

these game where not the best because they can be modded, they where allready really great, and modding is a plus.
But no, game dont "need" modding. If i read all of that, you'r just a mod junkies.

In grounded, you have perk to go faster, gear to go faster, food to go faster, zipline to travel acroos all the garden. And you still need speed mod ?
You'r are just mod dependends at this point...

Here I can say, with authority, you are wrong. Dead wrong! There are over 30 million copies of skyrim sold, yet nexus has over 2.4 BILLION mod downloads. Numbers don't lie. Players love good games and modders love to take those games to the next level. I had about 400 hours on Skyrim before mods, now I have well over 2000. That's just one example of a great game made even better by the ability to customize it. Just look at Warcraft 3 and DotA which spawned a whole new multi million dollar game all from a mod. There is both players and money in modding, and if the devs ignore, or indeed restrict it, it's at their detriment.

But we digress from the actual question that I asked in this thread. It has been answered.

I mean, you literally are agreeing with me, you'r saying, like me, that these games where great from the start and that mods enhenced them.
That's why they dont need mods. It's cool when you have mods, but you dont need them. If you need mods to apreciate a game, you'r part of a minority who cant play anymore without mods, which is sad it's my opinion.
Skyrim can be played without mod, but it's cool to have them. Look at Darkest dungeon, a great game before modding was enable, and there's plenty of exemple.
If peoples mod games with passion, it's not because they need these mod, but because it's more fun to mod a allready great game.
And, "with authority" ? Touch some grass
If you got your response, you can pin it

Never said that mods are not good, just not mandatory.
And that mods does not necessarily make a game great, but a great game attract modders to enhance it.
