Is this a short game?

i know basebuilding extend the play time and all, but campaign wise?

If you knew what you were doing and wanted no side content or building etc. and went straight through the story you'd get done in about 3-4 hours. Obviously not knowing what to expect how to upgrade, farming materials etc. extends it but purely story it's not THAT long

It IS that long if you are new to the game. It's not 3-4 hours. Around 30-40 maybe to learn the game and be able to defeat the mandatory bosses. 3-4 hours is for someone who already has 200 in the game. OP obviously doesnt know what he is doing and where he is going otherwise wouldn't ask such a question so why saying a ridiculously low number? Purely story is far far more than 3-4 hours. The labs, the undershed and even the final event requires a ton of preparation for someone just figuring out the game. Not to mention the side chips, and the optional bosses with which it's can easily go up to 60-80 hours and thats without major building.

that's a little over the top 60 - 80 hours? nah bro, nah. a lot of the stuff "side chips" are not necessary to finish the first ending..

According to "How long to beat" the average is about ~20 hours. You can easily go off the rails with "Ohhh I want to do that" side quests or OMG OMG...not ready for that. RUN...or with sheer skill do it in far less.

campaign wise I'm still on the 30-40 hour side. That 3-4 hours is still ridiculous

I think it only gets 3-4 hours... AFTER you played for 30-40 hours to learn what you need to do.

As a still mostly new player myself, I think I can answer, provided OP has the same profile as me. Taking the time to discover stuff, progress, and explore there and there while doing the story, it's probably 60+ hours of gaming.

How can you answer 3-4 hours!? Grounded speedrun is 1 hour. Count X20 time that amount + the side content, the time you explore and discover, even if you're quick, you'll take at least +30-40 hours.

3-4 Hours assuming you did research and knew what exactly to do where to go etc. and skipped any farming for base building etc. and just went with the most basic setup ever and played on easy/normal then yea anybody can probably beat the game in 3-4 hours without trying too hard. Most survival games have their playtime massively extended through "side" content such as farming or traversing big open maps. Typically the start - end goals of this genre isn't very long

you basically described the speedrun principles. do you really think there are ppl outhere searching for games and be like "hmmm this looks nice I should beat it as fast as possible on my first try" or MAYBE they are like "this game looks nice but I dont want to spend XY amount of money if it has no content"? 3-4 is still ridiculous. OP asked if it's a short game. That was the title of the post. The answer: NO. It is not in fact a short game. Thats it. That was the post and the question.

There are a LOT OF PLACES TO GO
There is a lot of enemies and environmental hazards to deal with.
Despite it being about being short, it is in fact not short.
