Me and the wife are looking for some split screen game to enjoy together.

Unfortunately no.
While we've seen a brief resurgence in split screen co-op games on PC this is not one of them. The Multiplayer is done really well however as you can share the world with other people you play and they can load the map where it was when the last person logged off.
