Weapon Upgrades
One of the things that confuse me are the weapon upgrades and which damage type a weapon ultimately has.

The Mint Mace as example states it deals fresh damage and I can see in the upper right corner of the tooltip that fresh symbol as damage type next to the upgrade number.

The Spicy Coaltana which states it is supposed to do spicy damage has the icon for slashing damage.

The wiki site says that the Mint Mace deals fresh damage and the Spicy Coaltana states it deals slashing damage with a spicy "Damage Augment".
So what kind of damage does the Spicy Coaltana ultimately deal? It cooks weevils and aphids fine, so it deals spicy damage? Why does it then state on the tooltip the slashing damage?

Also overall how do upgrading weapons work? When you take some weapon, lets say a Rusty Spear and you upgrade it with the salty upgrades does it then do 100% salty damageor a mix of salty and stabbing...?

weapons can have both.

each bug is either weak, or resistant to specific weapon types ie slashing, stabbing, smashing etc. this is the weapon's base damage type.

each bug is also either weak, or resistant to elemental damage. spicy, sour, salty and fresh.

so if a weapon is upgraded to (or inherently) an elemental damage type, it will be more effective, depending on the bug.

Yeah I would like to know how much of a weapons damage is, as example the Coaltana - slashing and how much of it is spicy.

I understand that already, but thanks to reiterate!

So you mean to say, I need to make a weapon that abuses a bugs physical defense type and elemental defense type?
As example the Coaltana slices through spiders with ease because it does slicing and spicy both which are spiders weaknesses?

i dont think it deals an amount of damage of each type i think the damage types are just a check the coaltana for example the game checks if the bug is weak to spicy or slashing if yes it does more damage if its resistant to either it does less ... i can only assume the damage balances out if its weak to one and resistant to the other. allso most spiders are only weak to spicy damage specifically

Hmm that makes sense. maybe weapons have a damage value they do per hit and then damage is added or subtracted based on resistance. Like the Coaltana might do more/more damage to spiders because it is slash and spicy both of which spiders are weak against. If you hit an enemy only weak against slash but not against spicy you only get one added damage value. If the enemy is weak to slash but strong to spicy it might cancel out each other.
I think each enemy has a percentage of weakness, possibly.
