I mean, it's possible I just got insanely lucky. I don't know the actual drop rate aside from "low." I did get the spicy trinket fairly early on too when exploring the Termite area. I have done the 30ish reload thing for the mint trinket with no luck. I think the only reason it works well for the salty one is you're breaking about 20 - 30+ of the things so that's a lot of chances per attempt. Whereas, the one mint I was reloading in front of was just one per try.
As for how long ago it was, I could check but I'd have to dig through most of my playthrough footage of the game that hasn't made it to YouTube yet. I can find it, but with real life crap and working and whatnot I can't promise you how quick I could find it.
I am too, if only because (far as I know anyway) mints don't respawn like salt crystals and the only way to really find any after you break them all is the random ones you dig up from underground.
I mean, I've got multiple of most trinkets, without even trying really. the only ones that have given me issue so far, is the sour trinket and the feather trinket. I think I said somewhere before, I tested it on the wasp trinket, and today I tested it on the sour, besides a few other times in a test world, all for science XD it never worked for me. fungal trinket also gave me a run for my money, I spent way too long doing routes to get it. almost went (more) insane.
when I tested it today, I was in the wasp box, there are 3 sour candy spawns there. I see your point about the salt, maybe I will test again, but do atleast 50 reloads.
oh, and don't worry, I was just wondering if you knew offhand.
I'm just curious if that number is total of every avenue he has tried, or just save scumming, or even just hyperbole.
if it was all with save scumming, and it takes about 2min to smash a couple (could have been in a candy box?) and also reload, then it would have taken around 21hrs
Have not opened the wasp box yet (waiting to get a few more pieces of gear maxed out). I forgot about the feather trinket but yeah I don't have that one or the sour trinket. The only one I really have multiples of is the larva spike for heat resistance. Think I have like 6 of those now. Fungal I know I got really lucky on. Grabbed that fairly early in my playthrough and glad I did as that is basically required to melee infected wolf spiders on Whoa difficulty.
You mentioning the wasp trinket reminded me of something else. Save scumming seems to work on boss trinkets with Rascal Rogue mutation as I managed to get the mantis trinket during one of my many attempts to beat it (obviously, decided to keep that death and not reload that save).
And that one I can tell you when it happened as I made a thread that day letting people know it was possible. May 8 of this year.

Of course Rascal Rogue was added after that so it may not have received the same treatment.
I've managed to get the spicy and mint trinkets after filling an entire chest with candy shards (full stack size upgrades, no save scumming) and just gave up on the others after that. I barely use the ones i have anyway.
Some mints do respawn, just not all of them. The one in the red anthill respawns for sure, as do a bunch in the upper yard and trash area. I suggest using the resource locator to search for them.
Same for spicy and sour candies, some respawn, but not all of them (usually the ones in easy to reach places don't, the more effort it is to reach the more likely it respawns).
Definitely wasn't patched then as my salty trinket we are discussing was gotten on a new world started after 1.0 dropped. So, well after any beta patches should have been applied.
no one cares about the report card, that is not what we are discussing..
also, resource surveyor shows spawn points, it doesn't actually show exactly where any given item is at the time. I think that's also what confuses alot of us. sure, there are certain candies that never respawn once harvested, but for most of them, they have spawn locations, but will never spawn in all of them at once
anyway, either they didn't do a proper job of patching it out, or a subsequent update messed with it, heck, maybe even rascal rogue has something to do with it?
I'm too lazy to go through months and months worth of patch notes, maybe someone else will?
I've been using it to find candies and crow feathers all over the yard and i've never had it show a resource that didn't exist in that spot.
it was a new scan, and I haven't harvested feathers in ages.
feathers, candies, scarabs etc surveyor only shows spawn points
As I suspected, save scumming does not appear to work on candies that spawn in the open (not from buried treasure). How do I know? I have save scummed open world mints for around 20 hours, doing 3 candies every 35 seconds - not a single trinket.
However, save scumming DID work for me (and apparently others) when it comes to the salt trinket. It worked in only 30 or so reloads! (for me)
I have still not found the trinket I am after (ice cap trinket), but I have been doing buried treasure runs pretty much non stop... however,
Along my journey I have obtained 2 more salt trinkets, 3 spicy trinkets, 2 more hogstopper trinkets, one sour trinket, and even a fancy fletching! Not to mention the thousand of mint/spicy candies, hundreds of crow feathers/gum/meals. At least I am rich with treasure of other sorts, which is a positive spin on this ordeal.
It's as if the game knows the last trinket I need is the ice cap... and is messing with me.
I will not give up! I will keep at it! Good luck to all those who are after their trinket...
One more thing. The interactive map at mapgenie is incomplete and not updated. I have found several buried treasure spawns, and open world candy spawns that is not listed in their database.
The reason this happens is because the crow drops them after your scan... as it flies or roosts.
This is 100% verifiable.
