If your going to want to fight bugs well you need to know more, if you see a bug use the Peep.R(X button) and check your data menu to see that bugs stats, if you know what works and what does not work the fights end sooner and your gear lasts longer.
A good trick for some battles is to carry some shinobi sneezes to give time to use items or to give a chance to get away, some use it for making time to ready stuns and heavy strikes to weak points.
But the real issue we both faced is the lack of damage the Stinger Spear really does and what types of bugs are weak to stabbing. Out of the tier 2 weapons the Stinger Spear is only better than Mosquito Needle in general, and the barely better than the Black Ant Sword only because of the crit modifier.
16 mobs are weak to stabbing, making it the damage type with the most mobs weak to it. But only 6 out of that 16 are even harder or even mid tier mobs. So even with the most mobs weak to it most are weaker mobs anyways. Also the better ranged options in bows and crossbows are considered stabbing and do by far more damage with the added benefit of actual range and safety.
You can make spears work better now because of the rust one, but before that the pebblet ones were only effective for throwing, and the Stinger Spear takes some commitment and specking to maximize its passive effectively.
