Stink Bugs...

So are these meant to be impossible to kill? i'm sitting in full ladybug armor, got the ant club and it just spams stink cloud whole time. I can't even get close to it to do damage. If you try and use the bow it just lunges. It has a massive amount of health... and to get the gas mask requires you to kill them?

Am i missing something or is this just bad design.

So you want a gas mask.
To get the gas mask you can either kill 1 Stinkbug using ranged weapons and kiting or you can smash some eggsacs and hope you find the parts for the gasmask in those.
Once you have a gasmask they are ez pz and you can just melee bash them.

You can comfortably kill your first stinkbug by crafting 6 or more pebblet spears and throwing them at the beast while keeping safe distance.

You can use other bugs to help you kill a tough bug as well. My first ladybug kill had an assist from red ants at their mound. My first stink bug kill would have been the same if the stink bug didn't get stuck in a small crevice first.

And as other said, use a ranged weapon like a bow or thrown spear (its lunges can be dodged). Or avoid killing them at all by looting spider websacks (you can find a lot on the way to and inside the Hedge Lab.)

I put on red ant armor and lured the ones to the red ant nest using a bow. then they take care of the issue.

Just build your base on the big rock at the south west corner of the pond and every few (ingame) days one stinkbug is fighting one or two bombardier beetle's below. Harvest when he's dead...

Try the Crow Crossbow, it kills stinkbugs in 5-6 shots. Crow feathers are a bit random to find, so use the resource surveyor to find them. If you haven't turned it on, then look in the south-western section of the hedge. You'll need to climb up a branch to reach the control panel for the surveyor, but you can see the surveyor's radar array sticking out of the hedge.

Once you have the crossbow, put on some Aphid Slippers and any armor of your choice before fighting a stinkbug. The slippers will increase your sprint speed, which is crucial for keeping distance from the stinkbugs. Use hit and run tactics with the crossbow, and always keep as far as you can from the bug.
