Gum nugget early?

Is there a way to get it early with no advanced tools? I just want to build a Holiday Tree.

No but getting a black ant shovel is easy enough.

Just run over to the sand pit on the outside and head towards the trash heap and find black ants there and get the shovel made :)

It's pretty easy to path from the red ant hill toward the west, then head south to slide around the haze and meet the edge of the sandbox. If you follow that south to the trash heap you'll encounter plenty of black ants.

If you insist on getting a gum nugget, my guess would be you can get one randomly from any tier2 lab (pond lab for example is, diving aside, not gear dependant).
Whether or not that is simpler than just getting the shovel is up to your judgement.

I was searching for gum nugget yesterday and learned that you need the black ant shovel to get it. I was searching around trash cans and I came to the Black Ant Hill Descent by mistake and went inside. Followed the corridors by killing the soldier ants as well, and one of the chests has 2 gum nuggets in it. It was the chest where there were 4-5 black ant soldiers and there was a door you can enter on the left side. When you follow that road all the way, you can find the chest on the exit. Maybe soldiers are not that easy on early levels but I have tier 2 tools with no upgrades and I was able to kill them one by one. Or you can just run past them, they can't catch you, that's what I did for the part with 4-5 black ant soldiers.

Can you? I definitely didn't get any gum nuggets prior to getting the T2 shovel, and I did all the other super chip labs before the black ant one.

I know there's gum nuggets in one or two of the chests in the Black Ant Lab, and there is also one inside the Haze Lab. Kind of the game encouraging you to use it to plug the weed killer.
