Insulating Larva Spike Droprate ? Killed hundreds, never dropped for me... Any Advice ?
Hi all,

as title says. I would like to get this charm, i killed hundreds of these little suckers (all around the yard, also the lava larvas in the backyard, but it never dropped.

Is there a special place, or a specific creature I have to kill ?

Thanks for any advice :)

It only drops from the ladybird lava, not the normal ones.

Okay thanks, though I killed certainly +150 of them.... :( Back to butchering i guess.

Don't ask me how or why, but I had killed dozens and dozens of them without luck, too... Yet somehow, when I casually found and raided what appears to be their "nest" (it's a cave system in the intermediate floor between lower and upper yard, roughly north of the garden gnome, there's a field station next to it), after fighting off the larvae waves and quickly looting them for spikes and gunk, I checked my inventory and found no less than THREE insulating larva spikes in it.

Try going in there and see if that works for you too.

I guess it's just RNG. Raided the nest in my older game, no luck... Also made the fight for the Katana, killed a lot, no luck.... RNG and me certainly don't come along ;-)

RNG is RNG but yeah, as maurizio stated above I got I think 2 spikes from their nest. I still have never gotten any of the food trinkets aside from the spicy one so I feel the rng pain too.

The Rng can be downright mocking sometimes. Took me like 2 weeks to get any of the rng based trinkets, and the first i got was the salt one but after several unsuccessful attempts i also walked away with 3 of them from one trip. It seems to happen a lot that you just dont get them for a while and then when you finally do you get several (also had trouble with the spikes, also got 2 from their nest on one run after several tries). So far the only one in my game that hasnt done that was the food trinket. That also took a while but at least it didnt drop multiple from one go after frustrating me for so long (i have gotten more of them since, but not all at once). Obviously it's all coincidence, its not like its intentionally programmed to be purposefully frustrating like that, but it does a good job of it anyway sometimes.

Generally just keep at it and check the best chances most often (like the little sandbox salt mine for the salt trinket, clusters of food for the food one, ladybird larva nest for the spike, etc), it will happen eventually.

Maybe I just got really lucky, but there's a cave with ladybird larva, I cleared the cave and got 7 of them from going on a killing spree.
Edit: Playing on Xbox, maybe drop chance is higher, I got two in a row just now

when it drops it looks like a regular spike in a bag. but you can see the sparkles. make sure you are picking up all of them. also I usually get them over by the grill.

U can greatly increase your drop chance if u build and use a stuffed ladybird larva. Stuffed bugs are particularly useful for boss trinkets and rare bug's resources. It's not just some decorations, it saves your time ;)
