My solution was just to build half floors in a step like pattern very 4-5 floors, and just leap frog down them.
Edit: Forgot to say the main thing I wanted to say, which is that I agree with you that it would be nice if we had something to build that softened our landing. Like a giant air bladder.
Not sure if there was a trick to it or not as I never tried replicating it but it got the person down quickly and with minimal damage, if any.
If you build a chute that ensures you don't drift too far from 'center' when falling, that'd be a really, really fast way to get down.
Something else I saw a video with a solution for this using a zipline near the bottom of the drop and 'catching' the zip line as you drop; that lets you fall super far and as long as you hit the key to catch the zip line at the bottom, you don't take damage.
As for the dismount possibly causing death, I haven't seen it do damage but I have seen it clip the character partly into the wall where the red anchor hook is mounted, getting them stuck. So what you do is you have an overhanging wall with the anchor on that instead. Works just as well as long as you have a bit of landing room
I have one zipline going to an anchor on a crow roof at my Pond Lab base, and it's actually hilarious when I zip to it (from the Upper yard), because I go right through the roof and land next to the back door on the level below.
So now I'm looking into alternate solutions. LOL
Though in the short term, I did put a storage basket up there and filled it completely with dandelion tufts, so as long as I don't jump before remembering I don't have one, I'm covered.
Only problem is if you miss, lol. So uh, don't miss. It helps if you build the anchors on two raised surfaces (like stem foundations), so you're not so close to the ground when you can interact with it that you have like .5 seconds to grab it.
This.
I created a floor for the upper zipline base in the shape of latter "O" to get clear space under it and used clover roof to make a floor for the lower zipline base. Using this zipline causes some damage when you hit the end. Using Daredevil mutation you can turn it into very little damage. However this was still not good enough. Once the zipline was completed, I was able to place a floor above the lower zipline base and put a bounce web on it (set bounce power to minimal). It eliminates landing damage completely and makes it safe to use every time. I will provide screenshots tomorrow.
