Pond base location advice? (no spoilers)
Me and a friend of mine completed all of the marked quest labs *except* the pond (we are both afraid of deep water, go figure), so I wanted to build a base as a sort of reprieve from the stress. While we can fend off wolf spiders with some struggle, there's a certain extra problem under the oak tree I want to avoid building near at all costs. Our main hub is the machine in the central yard, the one you check out at the very start of the game.

Is there a recommended spot that is located relatively on the south side outside of creep patrols? Should we build a zipline that goes over the pond? What's the hot vacation spot for the pond right now

The Lilypads right in front of the Oak lab entrance is a favorited location for players to build in general. You can also get very creative with the Pagoda; which I tend to favor for having a Field station right inside my base and easily pick up quests and the likes.

Yeah, the pagoda is a great place to build. Not only do you have a field station like Carambar mentioned, but it's super easy to get access to the upper yard that way with some creativity.

Only downside is the faction raids don't really work there as the land bugs give up shortly after you get the notification. That can be a upside if you don't want to deal with the raids or a downside if you do want to deal with them.

Much appreciated for the answers!! I'll consult my friend so we can begin construction next time we're both around together

Thank you for adding on this!

Yes the Pagoda is definitely a great place for late-game when starting to spend most of one's time in the upper yard. Since it is naturally elevated and at the same level as the slabs drawing the limits of the upper yard, building bridges will be a breeze, and ziplines towers will take less effort.

I usually build a bridge facing the tree onto which you can add Sap catchers and it also grows berries, saving you potential trips to the Hedge. Easy upper yard access :-)

Definitely my favorite location when reaching towards mid to late-game.

Raids not really triggering can definitely be a bonus / hinderance depending on your views on the subject, as mentionned by Dr. Rockso.
