Scarab Behavior
If a scarab sees you, it runs away and disappears.

1) Are we now dealing with a re-spawn time and have to wait days like when we kill it? or...
2) Will the scarab pop up in it's area again soon after disappearing? or...
3) Do I need to leave the area and come back for it to trigger popping back up?

I'm asking because I have yet to see one pop up again after disappearing if I remain in the area, but not sure if I just maybe missed it cuz I was looking in another direction or something?

In my experience, the answer seems to be number 1. It would be great if they popped back up if you left the area and came back, especially as I swear that other bugs can spook them (don't quote me on that as I'm not 100% on it).

I believe you're right. I was hunting the scarab near the Samsquanch Dirt Bike. He saw me and vanished. I built a hunting stand for next time, but noticed he had not shown up while building it or the entire time I remained in the area waiting. I decided to run south down to the nearest Field Station and use the scanner for Twinkling Shell and there is no longer a red dot for that resource in that area. So now I just need to keep an eye on how many game days go by before it turns up again. I'll post back when I get the answer. Thanks!

Yep, standard re-spawn time. It took three days for the scarab to re-spawn.

Yeah, that's what I figured, it kinda sucks and I think that just encourages save scumming, but at least there's multiple spawn spots so that's good I suppose.

4) get your twinkling shells from the pipe in the undershed - where they can't escape you - and ignore scarabs otherwise because it's a stupid mechanic.

Even just farming that single spot will give you enough shells since the main bottleneck for weapon upgrades is black ox horns (which you can kill 4 of on the way there for extra efficiency).

With the current "players are enjoying something so let's nerf it" mentality that the devs have, I wouldn't be surprised if in the future they make it so there's only one scarab in there or completely remove it altogether so the only scarabs you can get are the ones outside. Call me a Negative Nancy but I honestly wouldn't put it past them.

One more reason to stock up while you can.

Thanks. Yeah, I know they're in the undershed area too, but haven't made it there yet....so been going to each of their areas in the upper yard to farm for now.

The time would probably be better spent just progressing.
There's no point wasting hours on farming twinkling shells when you can get the same amount much easier with just a little more progress.

And it's not like you need level 9 weapons for anything, anything higher than 6 is just luxury.

I've managed to MELEE kill them, their sight cone is tight as hell. Just learn their patterns, wait for them to be near a wall/cliff, and pull the trigger. They respawn DAILY, too, if you didn't notice.
