How reliable is the pet system for you guys ?
I'm really struggling with the pet system. I'll often have to find my pet and interact with it in order to get it's inventory to be accessible. But even then to button to access the pet inventory will only remain visible in my inventory screen for a short while before it just disappears because the pet will end up de-syncing with me.

I don't understand why the pet system in grounded is just not handled the same way similar companion systems are handled in other games - where the companion is just teleported to the player if it can't otherwise path to the player on it's own, or if it gets too far away.

Because far as I can see the pet system is so horrendously unreliable in it's current state that I practically can't even use it.

You don't need to be close to your pet for inventory. Open your inventoey and you should have a button for opening his inventory.

Also pet being stuck accross the map isn't that bad since you still have the buffs.

A trick I did with my friend was getting his pet stuck in our base. Then my friend go gather the material and deposit in his pet inventory. While I open his pet inventory for retrieving the stuff. I could transfer smoothies and gas mask to my friend this way too.

my pets been stuck in a root for like 200 in game days, i kinda just use him as a beacon so i know where my base is at now tbh.

Pets are great for the inventory. But I agree, absolutely horrendous to use while adventuring. Even gnat, which should be able to fly, gets lost, stuck, or randomly decides to go to an extreme corner of the yard that I've never been to btw. I built a basement to my base and made sure to get my pet stuck under there and toss it food now and then.

There's an island in the flooded zone that not a single creature can access (since it's an island); no ant will ever find its way there; except the one rare moskito that wanders around the area but they are only aggressive towards the player.

Get yourself a weevil or Aphid there and it will never leave this island either.

Two things tho: 1) You will have to come back close to the pet after each log out so the game recognizes it as yours. The symbol is still there on the map, and is still your pet; just cant be accessed until you close proximity to it. (About 40m)

2) Second issue that happens even if you enclose your pet inside of a room; they sometimes glitch out / teleport nearby when you sleep somewhere else and then good luck getting it back there. (Id just get rid of it and get a new one, BUT building a base on the island and sleep there is also a possibility)

That's all I could find to get the most out of the pet (erhm erhm *inventory slots*) without them dying every day or be too much of a chore.

Sadly, I havent been lucky enough to get any of my pets stuck somewhere for a long time; they end up glitching out and free themselves eventually. :(

I got a pet. Had it for like 10 minutes, then left him at base, because boy is that pathing just not working even slightly lol Fun idea, but doesn't seem particularly well designed.

I've been trying out the pets myself and it's been rather frustrating. I also have issues getting my inventory to show my pets, even when I'm near it for some reason. So far, my aphid attempts resulted in one dying and one getting stuck on basically everything in my base so it got retired. My weevil attempts have gone horrendously because my main base is really close to the red ant nest and that's where I'm testing out pets, needless to say red ants are not great for a weevils longevity. The one I did get home alive, now lives in a pet house as well because it's too dangerous for it to leave.

The gnat has so far been the most successful and it's either bumbling around directly up my backside and booping me around the place, or nowhere to be found when i actually want/need it. It now lives inside my house because I put it in the aphids old pet house outside but somehow the gnat who can't figure out how to reach me in my open air second story can totally figure out how to fly through the tiny little mushroom block window. Cant figure out how to get back out though and I'm okay with this. Best thing that's happened so far even if it's inventory is still super glitchy, I still get the pet buff now that it's just bumbling around my crafting room, and since it's my main base I'm constantly revisiting the area anyway when i relog (if i didnt just plain log out while already there). Bonus that as the most annoyingly present of the pets, it also constantly reminds me to feed/pet it whenever I'm at base as it boops me across my floor. I do wish your teen had more to say about pets than their generic critter lines though, nothing like petting a gnat while Alley is actively complaining about how gross/annoying they are.

I agree. Was hoping for something more like Ark. Although, this game is supposed to be centered around the player, not taming Bugs/Insects to go up the tier and progress. Regardless, I would've loved a pet ant or any others that would go into battle with me, help hunt for me or any task while it's idle and even serve as a mount. But I guess that may be asking too much.

Its better if they get stuck somewhere and stay there as they less likely to die, but its still pain as each time log off you have to get close to pet to reactivate it

Nope, they will find (glitch) their way out to their untimely death eventually.

Even a weevil that I had on an island eventually managed to traverse the water; only the game knows how.

Lucky you.

I had a gnat enclosed but it glitched out a few days later and died shortly after from the haze while I was around the black ant hill.

to be fair i tamed them early and then build the main base even if he would glitch out hes still in the base so he should be fine as long as i keep the doors closed :D

There is something that you do that I don't then. I was thinking of triple walling them off as a security measure... :-D
