Or make a half dozen pebblet spears and throw them at them. Pebblet spears are cheap to make, and one spear hit will kill a gnat easily. A thrown spear does more damage than a bow (of the same tier), so it's actually always a solid ranged choice. Just not if you want to do a LOT of range, seeing as spears don't stack, unlike arrows.
THe Wolf Spiders are better at staying in bed during the day, you could climb up as the sun is setting and then just hang out up there until nightfall. THen use a dandelion tuft and glide away from the oak tree to get down when you finish.
It's a relatively safe spot during the day. Some orb weavers to the west and east, but as long as you stay centered, they rarely venture there.
I feel like the lantern turns on at like 8 pm. I know the last time I 'waited' for it, it was later than I expected it to turn on.
ez. or use the lanterns near the oak tree to kill dozens of them with melee as well.
