Essential for obtaining gnat fuzz for sprig bow. Difficult to kill gnat without a bow! Suggestions for killing gnats? Throwing rocks didn't work.

If you climb up onto the lantern that's just south of the oak tree right after sundown (when it lights up), some of the gnats get close enough that you can melee them easily.

Or make a half dozen pebblet spears and throw them at them. Pebblet spears are cheap to make, and one spear hit will kill a gnat easily. A thrown spear does more damage than a bow (of the same tier), so it's actually always a solid ranged choice. Just not if you want to do a LOT of range, seeing as spears don't stack, unlike arrows.

go to the lantern at the oak tree at night,u can easy get up to it,and slaughter gnats.

Ahh... If only they were attracted by my torch in the early evening. Not sure I want to be around the Oak Tree in the early evening. But I need a bow. Thanks.

THe Wolf Spiders are better at staying in bed during the day, you could climb up as the sun is setting and then just hang out up there until nightfall. THen use a dandelion tuft and glide away from the oak tree to get down when you finish.
It's a relatively safe spot during the day. Some orb weavers to the west and east, but as long as you stay centered, they rarely venture there.

I feel like the lantern turns on at like 8 pm. I know the last time I 'waited' for it, it was later than I expected it to turn on.

you can just throw a spear or sprig axe.

ez. or use the lanterns near the oak tree to kill dozens of them with melee as well.

if you are patient and dont want to chance the oak tree just yet, there are also a few gnats over by the mystery machine at the start. They sometimes drink from that puddle in the path if you are coming from the science station direction. They are super easy to melee when they do, and the rest of the time they buzz around near that pond with the sunken clay near the mints container, so you can practice your throw all you want. Plus, if you climb up on the clovers or the dandelion leaves over there they also sometimes come over to "boop" you, also allowing relatively easy melee kills. Though be aware, a wolf spider can occasionally patrol the area, though it doesnt seem to be there if you are playing on mild which is nice.
