How to kill a @#$! wolf spider
In the right circumstances, I can kill a spider cheesily, taking advantage of the AI limitations and using dozens of arrows, but whatever I try, it's total suicide to get in close with them.

Better weapons and armor matter not at all. Buffed acorn armor isn't much better than going in nekkid, and buffed weapons still do tiny chips of damage. Then, I watched a couple of videos showing youtubers showing off their blocking, and killing one with no armor and a peblet axe or spear. Yeah, right. I notice these videos are a year or more old, and current spiders seem twice the size, three times as aggressive, and four times as fast.

I've tried to duplicate this- Save the game, attack a sleeping spider, then practice blocking. And dying. Over. and over. and over. and over again. I don't have the timing of a professional real life martial artist, that's why I play video games instead. The hit so hard, fast, and often, they don't even NEED poison. And of course, one poison hit and it's all over.

Do I just need to start a new game with a nerfed/easy setting on the combat? What's the trick to dealing with these things? I'm willing to learn, but I'm not a master of twitch reflex combat, and I'm not sure I COULD be, even if that's the kind of game play I wanted.

love all these people commenting that you need the mithridatism mutation lol

do you remember how to get it? you have to beat wolf spiders... and now, it levels up 3 times to only 75% poison immunity. it used to be 100%, after killing I think it was 5 wolf spiders :steamfacepalm:

OP, I would say, either take the time and practice practice practice, but you say you have been trying, so maybe just try and cheese a few, until you have unlocked that mutation, it really does help.

otherwise, just avoid until you have atleast lady bug armour (maybe even upgraded), and a decent, spicy upgraded sword..

With Bow or Armbow you need level II Arrows. The makes more Damage. Also use the rotten Bee Armor with Bow. You have a Chance to stan the Spider. And always from Higer Terrain. But be care if you fight against two Wolf Spider at same time. In me fight one Spider jumps up and hold in the tree and the other jumps on der first and then up to my Platform. I was really afraid. :) And i was standing verry high.
Higher terrain doesn't make a difference anymore, they fixed that in one of the last couple of updates :)
Also, rotten bee armour may help a little, IF a person has it (and then makes their own proper bee armour) or knows where to find it
There is a few areas where cheesing them is easy. Finding them can be quite fun :)
So there are 2 Methods of beating Wolf Spiders

1. Cheese
Super easy to do - there are some good areas to cheese for example the Oak Tree spawn under a leaf. You can stand ontop of the leaf and shoot the wolf spider below - it will run around and never can attack you.

This tactic works in any situation where you are above it and can shoot through below.

The other option is Wall Cheese. Wall Cheese is when you purposefully trap the wolf spider behind a wall. Then shoot through a tiny gap - Keep in mind the wolf spider has to be trapped in a low cieling area such as a cave. This prevents it form jumiping over the wall.

2. Pro Skill
Shield + sword and ant armor.

If you can agro a wolf spider into an ant nest - the ants will attack the wolf spider for attacking you. The wolf spider will probably win - but you will be able to kill it while the ants sacrafice their lives for you

Learning to block with shield is critical though
You definitely need a shield when fighting wolf spiders for the first time. That's where the Acorn Armour can be useful, because that gives you more viable blocks.

Also, axes are the best weapon against Wolf Spiders if you haven't gotten spicy damage yet.
