Pros and Cons of plugging the haze
Before I go plug the haze this afternoon, I'm wondering what people consider the pros and cons of it. I'd prefer not to regret my decision later, so just want to make sure there's not something about doing it that I don't already know.

I do know about the spread of infected insects, including the infected wolf spider. What I don't know is if it effects my ability to get any specific resources or if it makes anything in the Upper Yard higher.

Where I'm at right now in my game is that I've finished everything prior to heading to the woodpile.

The only thing I know of besides the spread of the haze, which I can see as both a pro and a con at times, is that You can go into the "Haze" area without the need for Gas Protection. There's also, by what i've been able to gather, the ability for Burrs to finally grow.

I say "By what i've been able to gather" because it sounds like, in a few other discussions, that the Burrs are limited until you plug it and they can't respawn/Grow until then, but I'm not sure on that.

I know there are some in the upper yard you can get without plugging it, but it sounded like they don't respawn without plugging the canister.

Well the only con is you will see fungal insects around the lower yard level appearing which are kinda stronger than the regular once. But i think they are still managable till you get to plug the gas canister. So i don't see that as a con.
The pro is, as the fella above mentioned, you can go in without gas mask. Plus the cracs in the ground will spawn good crafting materials like a lot of feather and dead insects.

I'm okay with seeing more of the infected insects if it is the same types that I already have delt with when going into the haze. I eat Funguspacho a lot, so I need the materials anyway.
I'm at the point where a regular wolf spider only takes 2 combos to kill, so I'm also okay with seeing an infected Wolf Spider (I'll probably run away though...haha).

Burrs can also be made into the mine traps so thats nice, + yeah easier access to fungus = more funguspacho/explosives. Why on earth you would ever think "hey that looks delicious!" when seeing an infected insect is beyond me though.

Thank you all for the input. I have just plugged the haze. No turning back now. :)

Burr weeds are the big one, if you want any of the Burr building parts, which look nice and are strong

What about burrs, @gutlor? What do you do for burrs?

P.S. I ran into the Infected Wolf Spider while out gathering acorns the very next night after plugging it. That thing is no joke, but fortunately I had just crafted an Ant Lion Greatsword earlier in the day, and made it Spicy, so victory was mine.

You get an achievement for plugging the haze and it’s easier to see in the the caverns there which have quite a bit of early game upgrade stones inside, also I think you need to plug the haze so the infected wolf spider appears in game and if your going for the peep all achievement then you would need to peep the infected wolf spider and also the complete the game with 100% S rank again I think requires you to have peeped everything, so I really was expecting part of the story to be about plugging the haze but it’s not it’s just a side thing you can do, like the broadmother and mantis fights other then achievements you don’t really have to do those bosses either

Me too, that's why I hadn't plugged it sooner. Then I read here it just never comes up, and I'm going to have a tier 3 axe soon, so wanted burrs to start spawning. :)

It's not worth spreading the infected just to get a burr, IMHO.
The traps are weak, and I simply don't need the buildings made from them.

Fair enough, @gutlor. I really like building, so I want those burr building parts. But I respect a different opinion. If we all were the same, the world would be boring.

You can't fight the infected broodmother unless you plug it. Not really a pro but I've beat all the other boss creatures so I guess it;s time to plug it.
