Scythe of Blossoms and Mutations?

So I was running around trying out my new scythe when I randomly leveled up the assassin mutation. So despite being an axe, does the scythe use the dagger mutations? I never noticed it activating Chopper now that I think about it.

Edit:Tested it out, and indeed even when not critting, I'm causing a small bleed. Weird.
