Which Armor should I upgrade?
I am not at the point in the game where I have access to Black Widow, Mantis, Moth, or even Fire Ant Armor (they won't drop their effin heads!). I'm looking to start upgrading a set of armor and I wanted your guys opinion on what set that should be. So as long as it's not one of the ones mentioned above, what armor should I invest in and why?

Well, if your only restricting the ones above, I'd say rolly polly armor. It's easily one of the best in the entire game. But I believe you do need to kill the full strength rolly pollys in the upper yard for the entire set, not just the much weaker sick ones by the garbage cans.

The armor gives crappy stun on block bonuses by default, but it gets a great set bonus and level 6+ second bonus of block power. It's also heavy armor so it's the most protective armor in the game.

I have the full set of Roly Poly Armor (and not the rotten set). I like it as a heavy armor, but not a fan of the heavy cost to stamina. It's definitely my go-to armor for when I am expecting to take a lot of damage.

Personally (and I'm not saying I'm doing this remotely correctly), I held off on upgrades until I got Tier 2 level gear. Then I did a few upgrades to my Lady Bug Armor, my Insect Axe and Red Ant Club, as well as the crossbow. Figured that's enough to get me through the Pond/Haze biomes, get closer to Tier 3 gear and the whole Upper Yard.

I'm currently rocking the legs and chest of rolly polly (full upgrade) plus the wizard hat that's about level 7 + the use of staffs. I found the most frustrating part of grounded is when the melee weapon misses and you have to be inside the mob to get a swing in. The staffs fix that and there's one for every element you could need - the spicy one isn't too hard to get and can easily take out most creatures.

I'm not a fan of heavy armor myself, so I'm looking forward to seeing anyone with a response that is for a Medium armor. I'm wearing (upgraded to level 5) Spider armor right now, and have been very happy with it for quite a while at this point, but am getting close to where I'll start unlocking some tier 3 armors soon....if I stop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around building all the time.

I've completed Pond, took out Assistant Manager, completed the Hedge, plugged the Haze (no regrets). I still have Fire Ant Hill, Termite Hill, Brood Mother, Mantis, Black Widows, and the shed, and a few late game labs.

I already have T3 gear like the Black Ox Hammer and Crossbow, Termite Axe, Roly Poly Armor, Black Ox Armor, a few of the new 1.0 weapons like the Rusty Spear and a sword who's name I can't remember or pronounce that has Life Steal.

Hopefully that gives a clearer indication of where I am at in the game.

The mask of the motherdemon, the termite armor and spider legs would be my choice, all sleek of course.
It's what i currently wear as my "endgame" set with the legs replaced by widow, and it's a brutal combination.

The poison nova proc on the mask does a ton of damage, and it's an aoe too. Helps kill everything that isn't a spider from ants straight to the mantis.
Also grants normal (relatively weak) poison to all your attacks, even arrows or staves.

Termite armor is classed as light armor but gets the damage resistance of medium armor (10%). The dust cloud proc from the sleek upgrade slows down bug attacks in a large aoe, which is not only good for defense but also lets you get in the 3rd hit of a combo more often , increasing your dps.

Sleek spider legs increase poison damage by 30% and decrease exhaustion time. Since the mask already does so much poison damage it's a pretty noticable increase.
Though if you're not sure about going completely without blocking strength you can swap in roly poly legs for them.

I've gotten pretty good at parry most creatures up to this point, so I share a similar perspective here. There is very few attacks I have come across that can't be parried. I also have a ladybird shield, so that makes up for a lot of any mistakes I might have.

For me, I'm more interested in set and sleek bonuses. Armor is armor, it is what it is. For me personally, I feel bonuses play a bigger role than Defense and Resistance overall.

Go kill the broodmother now. Someone yesterday advised me that Tier 3 gear is overkill for her if you want her to actually feel like a "boss", so I went to do her today and I'm glad they gave me that advice. She was a fun fight, but not super difficult, with my upgraded tier 2 weapons and armor.

Just so you know where I am in progression, I've been through black anthill and the picnic table, but haven't done the sandbox or anything after it (yet). I got preoccupied with building zip line towers after I unlocked curved walls.

Edit: Thanks for that reply @blackphoenix, that sounds a lot like my "cup of tea" so to speak.

I've taken on the Broodmother before 1.0. Did they make any changes to her? If not, I'm not missing out on anything. I farmed her enough for one life time. haha

Interesting combo. I need to go kill Termite king so I can make that armor. Easy fight, but my wife wants me to wait on her to do the Termite hill with her. I'll keep this advice in mind though.

Btw, does the Termite Dust guard help with the Moth?

I do not know re: any changes. I didn't play Early access other than around 20-25 hours the week before release, so never killed her before.

I did follow the game for the entire early access period, and didn't notice her do anything that I hadn't read about already, so if they did change her, it's probably not something 'big and obvious'.

Nope. Doesn't do anything against bee pollen either. Termites and dust mites only as far as i can tell.

And broodmother wasn't changed. Basically still the same as she was in the Shroom & Doom update.

Darn. I tried fighting a moth with new clue what their attacks were beforehand. I regretted it instantly. lol

Gotcha. Didn't know if they buffed her health or damage or kept it the same. Oh well, guess I will find out the hard way uh? lol

Won't be able to fight her till Wednesday when my wife and I's schedule line up.
