Pet Glitched?
Hello,

I have a pet aphid, and it got glitched out inside of a root at the oak tree. So now, I'm stuck with a pet that is useless. I can't access its inventory, I can't kill it, I can't interact with it in any way, and I can't seem to tame another one in its stead.

I am not far along enough to build a pet house yet. I still have a bunch of stuff to do before I can make mushroom bricks. Is there anything I can do so that I can get rid of the pet that I have (it has been in that root for like a week of my playing now IRL) so that I can utilize the feature?

Best,
StealthyDead

My inventory slot for the pet disappeared. And it doesn't come back when I'm near it. So I'll try relogging on top of the spot that it's stuck.

I have that problem sometimes too. Once I'm sorta close though, they re-register to the pet house so I can go back and get them from that. That doesn't help you though, seeing as you don't have the pet house.

And I agree, that it's not acceptable they left the pet pathing and clipping in this state for 1.0 release. I was very disappointed to not see any fixes in the 1.01 update for it either.

At the very least, they need to add a pet 'teleport' feature that teleports it to you if it gets farther away then some reasonable distance.
With the game using the Unreal Engine, I don't think they will ever be able to properly fix the pathing/clipping issues for pets or mobs, though it certainly could be at least better. Which is why I said adding the teleport thing is needed. It's a common issue for all game using the Unreal engine that have as much "stuff" to get stuck on as this game does. I've played many games with pets and with similar issues...they all have the teleport thing to at least mitigate the frustration.

UPDATE: I have tried explosive as well as having a ladybug and orbweaver attack me all over the location, and nothing can harm the pet whatsoever.
Get used to it. Pets get stuck inside terrain and objects constantly. You should still be able to access their inventory though. From your inventory tab, there's a small round button that says "Pet" to the right of your inventory slots. That opens their inventory without needing to interact with them.

The Pet House doesn't really help with this problem, btw. A pet that you put IN the house does not provide the status buff nor the inventory slots, which means you either have to take the pet out of the house or you have a pet that doesn't have any functionality.
Putting pets in the house also does not move them to the house, so if they are stuck, they stay stuck even when you put them in the house and will be stuck in the same place when you take them out of the house.

The main thing I have found when my pets are stuck is that after a game exit/reload I lose the status buff and the inventory slots until I return to the spot where the pet is stuck. Once I do, I get them back (even though the pet is still stuck).

I have an aphid that has been stuck in the same spot inside a rock by the pond now for over 14 game days. I still 'use' that pet all the time for the buff and inventory slots...I just have to return to the location and stand on the rock above him any time I reload the game in order to get access to him...which is a real pain.
It's been so long now though that I built a zip line to the spot from my base...

I originally re-charmed an aphid every time the one I had got stuck like this, but at this point I've had many and they ALL got stuck...so I'm just making do.

Good lord. And I keep running into enemy mobs stuck in the terrain like every 10 minutes. This is a mess. I have tried to charm other pets, but it won't let me since this one still has the icon for it even though I don't have the inventory space.

My inventory slot for the pet disappeared. And it doesn't come back when I'm near it. So I'll try relogging on top of the spot that it's stuck.

For 1.0, the terrain glitching is totally unacceptable. Huge mess. I'd like to get rid of the aphid and just have a gnat as a pet since they fly hopefully they wouldn't get stuck in the ground CONSTANTLY.

UPDATE: Relogging on location hasn't solved the issue. And I cannot recharm a new aphid. I have fed a single aphid 5 slurries to no avail.

I guess I will have to go on into the game and try to figure the pet house shenanigans out. Which BTW how ridiculous is it that your character constantly talks about having an aphid as a pet, then you can't even build a pet house until tens and tens of hours into the game? You discover the recipe for mushroom slurry/mushroom brick in like 1-2 hours. And then you have to play through most the entirety (as far as I know) of the game to even craft the bricks to make the pet house? It's absurd.

My one goal for like 20 hours has been a pet house, and I still am not close it would seem. I still have to find a way into the sandbox so I can fight the creatures there so I can create the armor that makes me not sizzle so I can survive the overturned grill so I can get charcoal so I can make an oven so I can make mushroom bricks so I can make a pet house. It's obscene.

Rant over, I'm about to be done with this game because the mid-game into late seems to become ever more tedious and glitch-heavy

THIS! Every single game with companions I've ever played in my entire life they had it set up where if you get too far from your companions, they just TP like 20m behind you off camera. That's the easiest and simplest thing to code and implement to fix this. I agree with you they'll never get unreal to not glitch things, but they need to shore up that pitfall like every other game I've every played has.
There is a TON of game after you get the ability to make the oven (which is what you're waiting for once you learn about mushroom bricks). A TON.
I'd say it's the 'mid-point' of the game, in my personal experience.

But I agree, it's crazy how long it takes to get to that when you can have a pet so much earlier.

I LOVE the game, btw. Having more fun with it than any game I've gotten over the past several years. I'm also willing to be critical where criticism is due, so have no qualms agreeing with everything you've said here. :)

Thanks for the candid response. That's good to know that there is a lot of game left. I was thinking that there is a lot of the yard that I haven't been directed to yet and that there must be more going on than I realize. Much appreciate the spoiler-free heads up!

I will probably continue with it. I just need to step away a bit cuz I've spent 2 hours this morning fiddling with pet glitch XD XD XD
Yah, when my first aphid got stuck the amount of time I spent fitzing around trying to resolve it was no joke. The 2nd time, I actually got ticked off enough that I exited and played another game for a few hours. THe third time, I used cheats to go into ghost mode to go interact with it, and hoped that the aphid would be in ghost mode and would come out with me (no luck).

The 4th time, I said "F it!" and left him stuck and went and enjoyed the rest of the game; though I did rush to get to where I could at least build the pet house to mitigate the issue.

I'm enjoying the game, and trying to just ignore the pet issues and make the best of it. But I sure HOPE they do something in the next patch to at least make it less annoying.

How do you go into Ghost mode? I don't see this in the cheat commands. I'd like to try that to see if it will helps me with a stuck pet as well. I know its not likely to work based on your response, but I'd still like to try.
@Staninja, you need to use a 3rd party tool for it. I used Cheat Engine to do it, but I assume you know how to activate the console based on your question, so you could also just try typing in "Ghost", as that's the Unreal Engine command for it. Might work.

I just used CE because I didn't want to bother with using UUU to unlock the console.
