I messed up upgrading an armor
I upgraded ladybug armor to like lvl 7, as I explore a lot and got some high lvl upgrade materials.

The problem is I didnt realize at lvl 7 it would ask glue to repair.

I only done hedge lab and im into haze, so since the glue recipe is in black anthill lab, it will take long until I can repair my main armor.

Will have to upgrade a different set maybe, I dont know other fix

How good is your blocking? Black ant's crit after block proc is pretty sweet if you don't need ladybug's extra healing to survive.

Otherwise koi armor does just fine without upgrading so you could just wear that for a while.

Blocking is good, parrying is bad / I dont even try in games, I dont like the mechanic and trying to coordinate, which im bad at it, stresses me out ,haha.

So yeah while the general rule is that you can dark souls whole game while naked if you are very good at parrying...the maximum I can do is blocking. I played like 100h mostly on ranged, so being able to face an orb weaver melee by blocking, as I did recently (with the plus of being arachnophobic) is the further I will go, haha.

Very good to know, in fact most of your answers have the top insight / knowledge about the game, and im pretty knowledgeable myself...haha.

Didnt know black ant one has a bonus for crit, I upgraded bee armor a lil bit as a secondary but it favours ranged 100%, so will look at the black ant or the koi one. Probably the koi one first.

Spider armor...nobody uses? I see the bonus is more related to stamina.

Generally, what I would like to increase is block resistance, since blocking all hits from t2+ mobs usually breaks my block, but late enough to be able to win the fight.
How did you upgrade armor to level 7 before doing the black anthill? That 's the chip that gives you access to the recipe to even make the upgrades to go that high?

I explore a lot too, and I never have found the upgrade materials already processed. I find them, but they require being processed into the actual upgrade materials, always. And that's the recipe that isn't unlocked until black anthill.

That's not true. I have been using the Spider armor in my game for a very, very long time. It's my Tier 2 armor of preference. And I know at least a few others use it as well, based on threads here.
I don't like the higher stamina useage of Heavy armor. Though I did make a set of Ladybug armor as well, I almost never put it on. The spider armor lets me play more offensively, and slurries have always been sufficient for my healing needs in combat, which is why I like it.

Spider armor is good, but it's for dps, not survival. You need decent parrying skills to do well with it. It's also really good with the sleek bonus for a poison build until you get widow armor.

As for block strength the only things that offer that are the acorn set bonus, the piece bonus of ladybug, the sleek bonus of roly poly and shields. Not really a lot of alternatives there i'm afraid.

Not really, upgrading to levels 6 - 7 didnt require me to use globs or any oven processed material, just sturdy marble I think, farmed with t2 axe.

This one in fact, sturdy plating (https://grounded.fandom.com/wiki/Sturdy_Plating) which yes wiki said to be made with oven. But I found it on the wild, idk if it was on the pinch whacker place or maybe inside the labyrinth chest.

I see, good info then, ty!

Yeah the recipe to make the materials for upgrading past 5 comes from black ant lab chip, I just got it myself a day or two ago. No idea how it’s possible for you to have gotten that early.
its not hard to make ladybug armor especially after u kill ur first ladybug and understand their attacks, which for them is basically just block, hit, block, hit. so u could just make a new set of ladybug armor for the time being

Me neither, but it was an unmodded, fresh start single player game, so idk. I still have 3 pieces in stash. Kinda strange tbh, and having it early is what caused this problem, lol.

Yeah but it would be unupgraded, as upgrading it again would be a waste, unless I spec it into the other path (I chose the healing on the other one).

Thats why I see it as a better option to upgrade a different t2 armor, like the suggested koi or spider ones.

So far upgraded bee and spider one to lvl 4, I explored alot and seems I have plenty of t1 upgrade mats
@MeGa, I had never gone to get the Pinch Wacker in my current game, so I did that this afternoon and can confirm that it is most probably where you got the sturdy whetstone/plating. The chest in that room has 5 each of Supreme whetstone and plating, and 10 each of Sturdy whetstone and plating.

Ahhh mystery solved, haha. Good to know ty!

So finding that early can mess up upgrades haha
How bad is the black ant lab to complete? Ive got the hedge and pond done, lady bug armor and T2 weapons but I still cant melee with a wolf spider...lol.

Should I be fine trying black any lab?
The game literally has a giant pop-up warning box telling you your about to make this mistake when you try to upgrade past level 5. You signed the agreement by clicking "I understand I'm about to do this." You will need to make another set of gear now.

As to how hard the black ant lab is... Most of it isn't too hard, mostly just having to run through rooms containing 5+ soldier ants. However... It does have the game's first difficult boss fight at the end. It ended up wiping the floor with me five times in a row till I figured out the mechanics/gimmicks he uses. It's a very tough fight. I strongly recommend having a hammer to fight him with.

Thanks. Is the boss the Asst manager I keep seeing posted around?
Yep, that's the boss. It really is not 'all that' hard of a fight if you aren't playing on "Whoa" difficulty and actually are carrying healing slurries.
I was actually kind of disappointed with him, after having read so many threads here that made him sound super difficult. Wolf spiders in the early game gave me far more trouble than the assistant manager did.

I do not play on Whoa, though. and I did have my hammer upgraded to 5. I can see how someone playing on Whoa that tries to do him solo might weep a bit.
