Upgrading the tools?

Is it worth upgrading the axes and hammers? Does it increase usage speed somehow?
Example the Termite Axe, if I upgrade it will it decrease 3 hits to 2 hits on grass to cut it down?

As an EA player I had the opportunity to upgrade all my weapons and armor that I wanted to finish the game with, before all the resources became finite. I upgraded the axe, and the black ox hammer to 9 mighty. I don't remember if it reduced the chops, but it sure increased the durability. I used the grass master perk to harvest all my grass and it takes 2 hits.
