Armor upgrading
How many sets are you planning on upgrading?
I will do a gas mask, my rolly polly armor and the ant lion set. I use the gas mask with super stink arrows for base defense.

Most likely all of them just to see what they get. I don't look at guides or outside info. The Black Ant Armor is one of my favorites now, and I wish the Marksman had a full outfit.

You can always save, upgrade a set to lvl 5 to see what it gets, and then reload the save if you don’t like it. Frankly, the material requirements are too high to feasibly upgrade all the sets.
