Are other arrows actually worth it?
So the easiest arrows to make are the basic ones right, if I have the crow crossbow I can make 50 of those arrows fairly quickly, my question is, do feather or splinter arrows do that much more damage to make the effort to make them worthwhile? Like how many arrows does it take to kill a wolf spider probably 25 basic arrows with a crossbow so if I used splinter ones how much better are they? Same with all the poison bomb arrows? Should I just get the black ox crossbow and use basic arrows or would the other arrow types really make a difference, also the feather hat does that have a huge effect on damage, using the crossbow I always wear full ant lion armour for the quicker reload and I would lose the quick reload if I put on the feather hat, but does the damage the feather hat does make it worth it in losing the quick reload perk?

Feather and splinter arrows do noticably more damage than the basic ones. How many hits it takes depends on your weapons upgrade level, but anything not resistant to stabbing generally dies in 4-5 hits at most (that excludes wolf spiders, sorry). All solo and on medium.

Same applies to the marksman hat (and eyepatch too) - they do have a noticable effect, but how many hits it saves you depends on your weapon, it's level and which enemy you're shooting at.
Just make one and try it out, it's not like the mats take that long to farm.

Splinter arrows are also incredibly easy to farm as soon as you get a t3 axe if you have a fresh stinger spear to kill dust mites (also great against ladybird larva).
Feathers are a little more effort until you get comfortable travelling through the haze (fresh black ant sword is your friend here), then you'll generally have plenty.

For other arrows i don't really bother with the elemental arrows, their being one-use items makes them not really worth it imo since splinter arrows do enough damage. I'd rather save my candy shards for permanent weapon upgrades, and you're going to need a bunch of them.

Gas arrows and super gas arrows are very useful though, especially after you pick up the toxicology charm from the pond lab. They're most helpful against swarms of weaker enemies (ants, termites, spiderlings).

Poison arrows are very weak. I wouldn't say they're worth it but you're not really going to use spider venom for anything else so you might as well make a few and try them out yourself.
Gets a little better with sleek spider or widow armor, but you may as well just wear those with the mask of the mother demon to get free poison with everything (even your fists and staves).
Super poison arrows i haven't tried yet.

I haven't actually used a lure arrow since shortly after EA started so no idea how well they work now. I'll have to give it a try some time.

With a crow crossbow and splinter arrows you can practically one shot a black soldier ant on WOAH! difficulty if you shoot it in the eye. It really depends on what you're trying to fight.

Isn’t there a new black ox crossbow that’s even better then the crow one? Maybe I should get that and upgrade it and use splinter arrows with that

There is, I was just giving an example. The stink arrows helped immensely during the Broodmother fight on the hardest difficulty to get rid of the adds with two people fighting her but the fight really boiled down to how well you could perfect block her. Every special arrow is situational.

The black ox crossbow isn't that great imo. It does a little more damage than the crow crossbow, sure, but it doesn't feel like as big an upgrade as going from tier 2 to tier 3 does on other weapons.

Craft one if you use your crow crossbow a lot, but otherwise it's not really a priority imo.

Excluding the elemental and effect arrows, the T1 arrows are most likely to be used for berry gathering, T2 at most would be your main ranged combat arrow before getting into the upper garden.

At best the black ox crossbow with upgrades and sleek bee armor and the mutations for the bow and crits with the T3 arrows are your best bet for hunting scarabs.

Keep in mind some enemies are more resistant or weak to certain damage types. Wolf spiders are highly resistant to stabbing type damage which all bows do, so it's generally a bad weapon choice against those enemies. Even with other arrow types, it's still going to take a lot of shots trying to punch through with a damage type they are resistant to.

Yep. which is why I take out wolf spiders with an axe and shield until I get a slashing weapon.
