Flaming Sword...........
So is this glitched out? There are NO creatures hitting the sword as I stand over it and yet the health bar goes from full to "you are not worthy" out of nowhere. So is this game design or is it broken?

You should have loads of ladybug larva that you have to defend against for 2 minutes I believe the timer is, also you can’t build anything in there so no defensive walls, mint mace worked best for me, not sure why your not seeing anything though, new save or continued from early access?

Curious, which sword and where? ;P

The larva can attack the sword by hitting the huge rock it is on. They can be standing like 10 feet away from the sword, down on the ground below the rock.. and still hurt it.

This event seems horribly unbalanced, especially for solo play. I used a weapon the insects were weak against, tons of healing items.. and still failed to get it above half a bar. I disabled player damage, and still couldn't make it. I disabled stamina usage so I could swing forever, and still couldn't make it.

I literally had to enable infinite damage in the dev console to actually finish this one. Killing the larva in a single hit finally allowed me to kill them fast enough that they couldn't kill the sword.

Sounds like a 4 player only designed event. The whole game is balanced around 4 player play.

It has a different name as well, but it is a samurai sword, stuck in a piece of charcoal in a bag next to the knocked over bbq grill. could be a neat fight, but the balance is a joke. as another has mentioned, they can destroy the sword when you are trying to defend it from a mile away, none have spawned, etc.

I guess it is part of all of the bugs like mosquitoes that stay in the air when killed or ticks that keep running when you kill them, etc.

Yup, you are right. The balance of the fight is poorly designed and given that they can damage it by just being in the same part of the backyard is a bit comical. what's worse is the more players to do the fight, the more bugs spawn. So this is not the best solution either. I don't want this to be easy but the way it is now, I can do without it for sure.

Is the sword even worth getting? I remember in the early access it had the same damage as antlion greatsword. Only difference was the looks.

I think it's basically just the antlion greatsword, but with spicy the moment you make it. Bumping it up to like level 5 was practically free, and gave me a spicy slashing weapon I could take the Broodmother down with easily.

The glow effect is nice too. It's no torch, but it does at least make fighting in the dark at least possible.

That sounds horribly unbalanced for solo!

yes it got changes, its hard for early access people, like me because it was a "free loot weapon" and no its defended, but after i thought about it, it is okay, because its a late game weapon, so i skipped it on first arrival in that area.

hardest thing for me was: not knowing that i can damage the sword by myself, i thought the bugs would do absurd damage at some points, but it was me hitting the sword

i did it on whoa solo, using t3 crossbow level 8 with antlion armor level 7, shooting at some and kiting those around, while still shooting on the ones on top or beside the rocks(they are standing mostly in the same places) and if there was close to 3 on top i short jumped in for melee (no consumables/buffs, except bandages), was okay at that point or the game.

The event is easy with the right gear and a little strategy.
Wear full antlion armor and use a fresh stinger spear or fresh rusty spear. Crow or black ox crossbow with mint arrows works too.
For mutations i'd go with cardio fan, buff lungs, fresh defense, coup de grass and either javelineer or sharpshooter.

If you're having trouble the toxicology badge and super gas arrows can give you an extra edge but you really shouldn't need it.

Before starting the event run around the inside of the bag and figure out which areas are safe to cool off in. Then start the event.

A bunch of ladybird larva will burrow in in several waves of 1-3 and go after the sword UNTIL YOU ATTACK THEM. Then they'll go after you.
Run up to them one by one and stab them with your fresh stinger spear which should kill them in two 3-hit combos on medium. Fresh rusty spear kills them in 3-4 hits.

Use the time between waves to go to a safe spot and cool off whatever sizzle you picked up.

Repeat until done.

It's easily done solo, you shouldn't even have the sword fall under 90% health if you're on the ball.

Two reasons it's worth it:
1. it only takes 2 spicy globs to craft instead of 5 for upgrading a normal weapon, so you can afford it earlier.

2. Since it already does elemental damage you can upgrade it with mighty, which does 20% more damage at level 9 than the antlion sword with an elemental upgrade.

(3. It's really not that hard. Killing ladybird larva is a cakewalk with the right weapon so you only need to manage your sizzling and you'll be golden.)

So what percentage would you say can do this than? 7 out of 10 should be able to do this? 5, 6? I don't want to be a jerk, but there is ALWAYS that one person who sees a post and comes in and says "this is easy" b ecause they are amazing at games. Don't confuse your ability with the majority of players abilities. Does that make sense?

You barely even need to block, just run in, stab-stab-stab, back off when your sizzling gets too high, repeat until done. It's a pattern a 10 year old can figure out in 5 minutes.

Ladybird larva die fast to fresh stabbing weapons and it doesn't spawn that many when you're solo.

I want to say "if you're not handicapped you can do this 100%" but considering the trouble some people have with even red ants i wouldn't be that optimistic.

But if you can't manage this one when you can kill the larva in one combo you frankly don't deserve to progress any further because it's really not very demanding.

And the troll keeps talking. LOL. Even content creators who make a living off of this game have made videos about the difficulty of this fight. Perhaps you are just a next level God and need to make "How to videos" and bless us all with the easiest red ants to the hardest Flaming Sword. But I will praise you on behalf of the entire Grounded community. You are amazing at this game. Oh and by the way, I am a disabled gamer. I am in a wheelchair and have 40% use in one arm as well. Not that should make any difference, but since you brought it up. However, I have dealt with players like you before and know that you just need some positive reaffirmation of your amazing ability at video games.
blackphoenixx Oct 4, 2022 @ 8:22am
I'm not really sure how "they die in one combo" translates to amazing video game skill.
My entire point is that you simply need the right gear and know where to stand when your sizzling gets too high.

You don't need to block or parry or do anything at all except run to the larva when they come out of the ground, hit them to make them focus on you instead of the sword and go drag them into the safe areas to cool off to kill them.
That's it.

As long as you can hit the larva and survive fighting them it's pretty much impossible to fail because once you've hit a larva once it will focus on you instead of going after the sword. Just stand so they don't hit it anyway, pack a stack of smoothies and you'll be fine.
