How exactly are you supposed to fight Stinkbugs?

Seriously, seeing that you need to kill one *first* before you can make a gas mask, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to deal with all the stink they release, which often drains half of my health before I can get out of it after they leap to my position to make sure I'm in the thick of it...

I was hoping to find some parts in the spider egg sack things in the hedge but I was running out of room on the baseball. So after doing the hedge, going back, breaking a few of the egg sack things, I went back to build a floor on the baseball. I had moved everything down to the ground and was building a floor when the orb spiders decided it was payback time. I did find 1 bombarder beetle part when I was breaking the egg sack things. So you could try that but have a base built and reinforced first.

Look through the egg sacks and then make the smoothie, itll give ample time to kill one and get the parts you need.

I ended up building the Crow Crossbow, which is really easy to get once you've got your tier 2 axe. With that and some arrows, I took down four stinkbugs before a fifth one ambushed me and took me out. Then I came back and got revenge while retrieving my backpack.

Arrows are definitely useful in this game. I would also recommend using it when going after the bombardier beetles. If you can keep a blade of grass between you and the beetle, they won't even be able to hit you while you pick their HP down.

I broke and looted all of the egg sacs on the way to, and inside of, the hedge lab and got several of the stinkbug parts in the process. Was able to make a gas mask before ever even seeing a stink bug. So that's definitely a viable option.

Near the red ant hill, northwest iirc, are 3-4 stinkbugs just outside of the gas. You can easily aggro them and kite them, one or two at a time, over to the ant hill. All you need then do is bait out the pounce and gas attack and sit back and watch the carnage.
The stinkbugs can take a beating, even against soldier ants but eventually they will fall and you're left with tons of ant parts and easy stinkbugs parts to get the gas mask early and easily. You may get lucky and get a ladybug involved too :D

Get a bow or crossbow and shoot them from afar. you can stand on top of the grass and shoot down if necassary, the gas has a max height, so you will be saf eon the grass.

Ranged attacks, they are weak to arrow/piercing damage. You can also equip a gas mask after you kill a few to get the parts to make one, makes you immune to the gas, then it's just a average bug tackling you.

Yeah I was just gonna say, that's a way to go. Put on ant armor, hit 'em with a sprig bow just often enough to keep them following, then as soon as one farts on an ant the whole colony jumps into the action.

Just half an hour ago, I got chased by a stinkbug and it got into a fight with a bunch of ants - then oddly enough a firefly wandered into the fart cloud and aggroed, ended the fight pretty much instantly.

If you manage to have a gas mask or the toxicology badge, you'll be safe against their infamous stink cloud.

I got lucky and had one fighting a Orb Weaver. They killed each other, so you can always try lurking near where their territory overlaps with Red Ants or Orb Weavers

I got jumped by two stink bugs just moments ago in my game. I HAVE A gas mask...but didn't expect to need it with what I was doing, so had left it back at base in a chest.

This was my first time actually facing a Stink Bug. You ain't kidding, they are NO JOKE. That cloud of gas is nasty.
