wondering what weapon to use for a noob

i just started being able to take on bees and ladybugs but im not sure what (melee) weapon i should use

peep the creatures and it shows you what their weak too... ladybugs its best to use a club or a hammer, ant club is good for ladybugs till you get the mint mallet, or club of the mother demon, bees i try and use the crow crossbow if you shoot them in the eye it does extra damage, then i just use an axe if they get too close

what about spiders? would the bee spear or the mosquito needle be efficient

I actually find the axes good for spiders have a shield for blocking and if you have the right mutations it can take a spider down pretty fast

You can get the pinch whacker without fighting anything. Just put in a glider and save it before you jump. Then alter your position to glide into the right spot. You will need a splatburst to get into the base doors though.

Not going to be able to use it for long without being able to make repair glue though. New players won't have access to repairing that weapon.

also how do you make a splatburst without fighting a single bug?

Stinger spear is great against red and black ants, especially if you make it spicy (upgrading to level 6 for an element is worth it for a tier 2 weapon imo, but i wouldn't go higher).

A fresh stinger spear (or other stabbing weapon, like the mosquito needle) is really good at killing stinkbugs, ladybird larva and dust mites until you can upgrade to the rusty spear.
Antlion armor + fresh lvl. 6 stinger spear made the coaltana challenge easy.

For the haze i suggest a fresh black ant sword - pretty much every infected creature is weak to slashing except the ladybug and they're all weak to fresh. Really good at killing infected mites and larva, for ladybugs use insect hammer. It's also good at killing mosquitoes and bombardier beetles.

For wolf spiders a spicy insect or termite axe is really good at killing them. It's also great against ticks and all other spiders except black widows.

On your hammer (you'll pretty much always be carrying one just to harvest stuff, may as well have it do double duty as a weapon) i'd suggest putting fresh as well - works against (infected) ladybugs and ladybirds,

That should cover pretty much everything you're going to see until you go to the upper yard without taking up too much inventory space.
