Any tips for killing a wolf spider?
Me and a friend have been trying to kill one for some time. It keeps killing us. Does anyone have any decent tips for killing one?

1. I recommend at least Acorn Armor. This will give you the defense to be able to take a few hits from the Wolf without dying super fast.

2. Poison isn't near as deadly as it used to be but you'll still need to account for it if you do take a hit. Bring bandages and smoothies if you have them. And yes, he does give you time between hits to heal/apply a bandage.

3. They are weak to slash so early game your best weapon against them would be the axe.

Wolf Spiders really only have four attacks that you have to memorize. As you learn both their sounds and their body language for their attacks it will become much easier to deal with them.

1. 5 hit combo. This is their deadliest move when you aren't used to them as if you take all 5 hits you're pretty much going to die. Best I can give for seeing this move is Wolf will raise just his right legs up before starting it. Oddly enough hit 3 will usually miss. Also be wary of the slight delay between hit 4 and hit 5. Block timings are pretty much right when you would think when watching it.

2. Jump attack. Also can be tricky for newer players. He will briefly crouch and raise both front legs up before leaping straight up into the air. Block timing is pretty much right after he is off your screen.

3. Crouching lunge. He will stand up a bit higher off the ground before then leaning backward and lunging forward again. This is his slowest attack but the end where he hits is a bit faster. Biggest tell of this one is at the start and how he doesn't do anything for a second or two. Block timing is as he finishes leaning back/starting to come forward again.

4. Normal hit. His easiest attack though it does come out a bit quick. He will lean away from you (and sort of at an angle so he will be leaning slightly left or right) before coming forward again to bite. He will also visibly move his mouth parts a few times. The tell for this is the pose and mouth movement. Block timing is pretty much right after his mouth quits moving.

Here's a bit of practice I did this morning for this update for showing block timings on Wolf with basic gear and no perks equipped. I also then have a second part where I deliberately take some hits to show that it is usually survivable as well as how it is safe to heal between hits. All was recorded on normal/medium difficulty.

Honestly Wolf spiders got fairly nerfed in damage it feels like. Sure, Acorn armor is considered heavy now but still I was surprised how little damage he did (outside of the 5 hit combo). Crouching lunge used to be a one hit kill (you'd survive but poison would often finish you). Jump attack was usually game over as well.

Yes, but melee / perfect blocking it a la dark souls shouldnt be the only way to deal with them.

Played hundreds of hours without killing any on melee, now that they jump I dont know if ranged is any viable

Ranged combat (for solo at least) hasn't been in a good place in this game ever since they implemented the whole "enemies run away and heal if they can't reach you" thing.

Ranged, to me, was always risky anyway in solo as you can't block with those weps. If a wolf spider closed distance and you couldn't switch fast enough (crossbow reload is sloooow) you were basically screwed.

I agree ranged combat needs a way to be viable but, tbh, I'm not sure how to make it viable or fun. I think the enemies running away and healing is dumb but I also think being able to completely trivialize the combat by just sitting 20 feet above target pelting it with arrows is also lacking in any excitement. Idk, just my thoughts

Oh and their jump is still not great. I had to actually work to get a wolf spider to jump after me this morning. Seems to still only work in certain spots. Heck, first spot I tried (pretty much a foot off the ground) he couldn't jump after me and walked away.

ah! I came to comment this after my recent battles with a ladybug and a wolf spider!

There was this mechanic, as you said: "enemies run away and fully heal if they cant reach you".

But I could still perfectly deal with everything as solo, included ant lions or whatever.

Now they added a new anti cheese mechanic. I am bad at parrying, and if I can beat dark souls / elden ring without syncyng my blocks, I expected the same here.

The bugs can now jump to reach you, which sounded bad, but ok, its fun. Had a battle next to oak tree with a wolf spider, and she jumped across my small walls, stairs, from branch to branch etc.

But now the "enemies heal and run away if they cant reach you" has to be removed. Because I was playing by her rules, jumpìng like mad with my crossbow, runing, going up here, she jumps and almost catches me, then I jump in another place...ok, fun! But she refilled hp like 3 times in a 5 minutes battle.

So this needs to be balanced, fixed or simply removed. Not the jump, but the hp refill.

Yes, I think the same. But to cheese a wolf spider or a ant lion, it wasnt easy anyway, as if you cheesed them too much, they ran and healed.

Now they jump a lot, and the combat is not trivial even if you try to cheese. It is trivial if you try to play ranged with the 2 anti cheese mechanics, lol.

Their jump...experiment more with it, buddy. I seen a wolf spider do circus like jumps xD

Tested here, a wolf spider at ground level can reach any place you see, get at any branch, and super mario jump follow you.

This is next to oak tree, which as you know has many branches and leaves that allow you to traverse it without touching the ground. Wolf spiders wont patrol that high, but if you fight them, ofc they wont jump from the ground to 10m high, but can follow you and jump from lower place to higher, higher, and end up almost in the top, lol.

Fix: remove the auto heal on disengaged enemies or those that cant reach you, since now they can pretty much reach you in many more places. Makes sense to me

Hey thanks everyone who helped here. manged to finally kill one. They are pretty easy to deal with now.

Funny how they can change the spider to follow you while before they stayed in their nests and we could shoot them, but they can't change the inventory that is all over the place everytime for years now.

It was asked many many times to let our weapons on the spot we placed them after use.
Now our inventory is a mess everytime, i didn't cared for a while but seeing they changed the game and not the inventory is just a set back. BOOOO

poison arrows with a slowing effect would make range viable, kinda like the effects in The Forest

You can still cheese kill them, i just don't tell how as the devs's will change that right away.
Let them change the inventory first, that is asked many times for years now.

They actually made it more cheesy now i found out. But what's the point of telling how i do it to the devs so they can actually screw up my game play instead of fixing something that is asked for years by many.
