It does a lot of damage when it procs. Not as much as a fully upgraded tier 3 weapon but if you're still in the process of upgrading it can be a viable alternative, especially against crowds like in the ant hill.

I haven't tried it on the broodmother yet but with how little stamina punching costs it could be a decent way to deal with the adds if you don't want to waste splatbursts.
And punching things doesn't cost durability or take up an inventory space.

The RNG can be a little annoying but overall it's not bad, especially if you get several procs in a row.

As of right now, there really isn't much reason to ever go unarmed combat, save for maybe you have a full bag and a nearly broken weapon. I'm hoping a shield bash or some kind of claw weapon / spiky glove comes at some point to add some incentive to it.
It is actually balanced but you have to build for it.

Getting it, alongside Lil Fist and Coup De Gras (level 2) sometimes lets you land blows that nearly 1-shot Wolf Spiders (critical explosions), and yes I have tested this because this type of build is exactly what I love in games with "classes" - but it's all luck-based. A fight with a Wolf Spider can end in 2 shots or like 20+ if you don't proc anything - but another good thing about Fists is that they attack very fast at very little stamina and combined with Coup De Gras, you can keep most things somewhat reliably staggered as well since a crit staggers - this includes bosses and can be very useful at canceling their attacks, like the Assistant Manager's room traps (if you crit during the windup). You can also use a shield with fists to parry.

So it can be either OP or underwhelming depending on your luck per individual fight, and the inconsistency of it makes it tough to recommend, at least in Single Player.

In MP though, one or two people building for it alongside the other players doing whatever they want to do, and you can likely really bring some pain. Even a full crew of exploding crit fisters could make quick work of bosses since it's 4X the luck, technically.

If you are playing with others, the explosion will hurt the other players depending on your difficulty
Does it? Bummer, that changes it's MP viability then.

Barely useful if you play solo. Even if they will make effective unarmed blocking, sometimes short range will kill you in situation where spear or 2h sword will save your time and nerves.

I’m very satisfied with this unarmed build I’m either very lucky or it’s op
I recommend tier 3 lil fist due to its chance to proc double hit my build is with lil fist, truffle tussle and power droplet it works with about any other mutation though for me, corporate kickback is a must.

Does it work with Barbarian for you ? causefor me, it seems not to, if it doesn't work for you, that means the patch that nerfed the power droplet a few months ago also changed the power droplet/barbarian combo, which would not be surprising cause it was honestly ridiculously OP....

Don't underestimate the power droplet. Think outside the box with it. I used bard mutation (since I was in MP) and spore lord work with it for quickly stacking the infinite buffs.
