Have they stopped you cheesing kills?
So I found a wolf spider stuck over by the tree and thought I would just shoot it with arrows I got it down to about 30% health left and then it suddenly jumped back up to 50% health so I carried on and again I got it back down to around 30% and it jumps back up to 50% so can you not kill things with the bow now or cheese kills like this anymore? Anyone else had this sort of thing happen? Again the spider didn’t run away so it’s health regenerated it was stuck in the tree and I didn’t stop shooting as I had 100 arrows

The radius seems smaller, but it was always there. Where'd they'd regenerate health if they couldn't path to you. They'll normally start running away, or backing up first before the health regen starts though. If you still want to cheese the AI ( If it's not already getting stuck on the environment), shoot a few arrows and then jump to safety. Then rinse and repeat as it starts closing in again.

Though, they generally just get caught on the environment anyway. Spiders are normally better about it (probably height saving them/not getting stuck). It would be nice if they could climb over obstacles, like rocks.

Game looks damn nice at night though.

Edit - oh, I'm on the public test build.

As stated above this is how any damaged bug works. If they lose path, they lose aggro, briefly will put them back to 50%, while you losing sight of them seems to reset to 100%. No doubt there are other parameters but those are the ones we can see and address.

A Wolf stuck in the environment is fair game, IMO, because gaming games is the very nature of video gaming. I lost a Ladybug because it ran away and I fumbled following after it while fighting with it's friend. Now, I focus on one bug and dodge the rest as best I can. A near similar experience with yours OP helped convince me to never let them get away. Insect bow, the marksman hat, and the bow mutation (upper level far right) make reasonably short work of even a Wolf Spider.

At this time (outside of multiplayer) I don’t see archery as viable compared to melee on spiders due to the above issues, inability to block, and just slower kills compared to going in with a mint mallet. It may work but I’d call it inefficient at best.

You can dodge spider attacks if you have spider armor and fast reactions. They have pretty huge blindspots to their sides.
That said you can use the same tactic with a mint mallet or the new broodmother club and kill them a lot faster, so you do have a point.
Also perfect block timing is easier than dodging so it's really just something to do for the challenge.

Where bows and the crossbow really shine though is vs stinkbugs and bombardier beetles since both are slow enough to kite (with aphid slippers/spider armor).

Crossbow especially since you can just run away to kite while it reloads and its higher damage makes short work of them with sharpshooter 3 and the marksman hat.
It also works against bees if you have some kind of obstacle to kite around to break line of sight since they take a bit to line up for an attack.

And if you suck at combat there's always the option to build yourself a little fort and shoot big enemies like wolf spiders from safety while they break through the walls.

If nothing else you can use them to pull for some free damage. You can easily get 5-6 crossbow bolts into the broodmother when it spawns before needing to switch to melee, that's a pretty nice amount of extra damage especially when CdG procs.

Well when I was trying to cheese the wolf spider kill as it was stuck sort of half inside a part of the oak tree I was literally right next to it I didn’t have to run away as it wasn’t able to actually get out it was just frustrating I couldn’t kill it with shooting arrows as the health kept regening to 50%

I’ve never had much success on dodging spider attacks since their change that reduced the effectiveness of circle strafing, so I just perfected blocking instead. May have to experiment with spider armor dodging though. Sounds fun. Crossbow also sounds like a nice change.

Bombardiers got nerfed with their new attacks which are less accurate and do less damage and aren’t near as instakill as their previous close range shotgun acid spray attack was. In fact, I haven’t seen that attack since their change.

They either go for a bite attack, shoot just one blob, or they shoot blobs straight up which then land on themselves...I still have no idea what the point of that attack is.

Stink bugs are even worse. Because they always start a fight with their gas attack they can be killed without any risk.

Here’s how it basically goes. Aggro, hit 3 times with mallet as he sprays gas. Wait for stamina regen, 3 hit combo again, get stun on 5th hit, dead on 6th.

Their new attack is kind of cool but unless their AI is taught to change things up a bit and not always start with gas then these guys will never pose a challenge in their current state.

It's already changed on the test build i think. At least i've had them open with their jump attack when i fought some a few days ago.

You can dodge that easily enough but since it spawns a gas cloud the crossbow is really the better choice imo because you can just keep firing. Only needs 6-7 shots too since they buffed the damage and you don't need to bother carrying a gas mask.

I haven't really tried fighting bombardiers in melee for a long time. I'll have to give it a shot to see what's new, but back when i last tried it was basically suicide.
