Grounded
Infinite Gnat Spawns?
So I was getting annoyed with the growing gnat swarm by the lantern next to the rose bushes so I build up a platform and slaughtered the gnats few by few when I was around and ended up building a base near to turn the meat to jerky there.
Now here comes the thing. During day, no more gnats seem to spawn and if, only like 2-3.
But during the night, as long as I am near, they seem to spawn in groups infinitely, as long as I kill the group before.
I ended up getting 21 gnat jerky that night and I would have gotten more if I had more space to dry the meat as even when I was leaving more gnats spawned again.
So did anyone test if they spawn infinitely?
Anyone else got this going on?
I am not saying it´s bad, it´s basically a free jerky farm once you build around so the gnats don´t fall to the ground, but I wonder if it is intended.

Intended, probably not, but it is useful. As for the infinite spawns of gnats it seems to cap at about 30 of them, not as bad as larva, but it's also hard to accurately count them seeing as they like to bother me while i counted. Hopefully it doesn't get patched too soon as it's a very useful source of food besides the mushroom gardens.
Yes, I've noticed that area...and the incredible chop and FPS drop I get as well...I eliminated quite a few and the performance increased. They do seem to spawn infinitely as they perish in the Spider web and my punches; why waste a weapon/quartize on them?

I think they may be placeholders for the Bee NPC...many seem to be carrying Nectar and Pollen, as I punch them, they drop their load and come back for the finishing blow and get added to my meat bag...lol. Snatch quite a lot of the flower resources too, hehe.
Turn the lights off.... They swarm around lights at night. Wish it was that easy. I was missing the gnats for a while....not anymore. On a hot dry night in real life there would be a lot more than 30 gnats flying around a garden lamp. Plus spiders are really active when it's hot...lots of gnats to catch. Webs everywhere. They should put in a temperature mechanic.... when it gets hot enough you know things are going to get nasty in the backyard.

Think you are right about the gnats with the pollen/nectar. Stand-ins for the Bees. Bees are probably hard to get right, make it look good and optimize to avoid loss of performance. I'd like to see millipedes... but I don't think we'll get them. The gnats were easy enough, like fuzzy puffer fish with little wings.

Might be the case, though I´m not wasting anything on them, it´s literally free.
Gas Arrow + Gas Mask = All the gnats dead and you get to keep the arrow too lol.

Millipedes would be awesome, perhaps even make them a mount or something.
