Enemies instant heal
I was able to kill my first wolf spider today when i was using the bow. it was on top of a rock next to my base, so i sat on the ground and shot arrows at it. It turned around, took a few steps away then was back at full health when i had gotten it to less than half health. I can understand passive healing but that seems a little too over powered in my opinion. I later had the same issue with 2 orb weavers, they would run from me if they could not reach me then return at full health even when one was 2 shots away from being killed with the bow. Other than that, awesome game and i can't wait to see what comes next!

Oh i was fighting some orb weavers and they kept doing that next to some rocks.
anytime i got too high they would run away. if i let them get to far they would heal all the way up.

The came forces you to stick to combat where they can still get at you. There is a middle ground with this however.

Simply take the high ground but stay within reach. The jump on the wolf spider and the reach of the weaver is just out or range. Its in these area of the map that the weaver will sit there and take its. it screws with its pathfinding.
The wolf spider however will bob around and still try to jump at you. Once you figured this out I recommend taking both of these enemies on the ground. To give yourself an added challenge.

Oh and you can outrun the wolf spider. I'm just not going to mention how. Figure it out yourself. :)
Happy Hunting!

Thanks for the reply, I am all for the spiders being cagey and running away when they can't get you. Actually it would be kind of neat if there was a feature that when severely wounded the spider may flee forcing you to track it down to finish it off. I just don't think they should be able to heal from almost dead to full just by walking away haha. Happy hunting to you as well

You two should make the smoothie station. 3 of any item (I use clovers) to make a 'smoothie?' that gives a 5th of total hp instantly. Get acorn top and analyze it. Acorns are found near the big tree. Harvest acorn shells and make acorn armor, then go face to face with them :).

i, have not dabbled with the smoothies yet, thx for the advice i'll try that out.

You can cheese enemies fairly easily at the moment by jumping onto e.g. a leaf that is not in contact with the ground - the enemy will immediately run away as they cannot get directly to you. Jump off quickly to get them to come back, shoot them, get back on again and repeat. Time (and aim) this well and you can down them with arrows - let them get too far and they do often heal back up to nearly full as a 'punishment' :D.

If you are lucky they will get stuck on terrain as they run back at you. They do need to improve the AI a bit tbh beyond just running at you. Wolf spiders do the same running away thing even though they should be able to jump at you.

insects heal over half their health when they have disengaged for a period of time, so just keep aggro and they won't

Update: I've used the suggestions given to me and have now given myself the title "Weaver's Bane" lol. If you add a lure trap next to a leaf you can jump onto that will draw the spider's aggro while you snipe it from above with the bow. Beware however if there are 2 orb weavers they will destroy the lure fairly quickly and you will be back to square one. I have not tested this on wolf spiders yet but i have been able to kill them by standing on the edge of a root where i am just out of their reach, by getting that close you can hold their aggro preventing them from running away.

i wonder if the lure would work better if you could surround it with spike traps

Bad mechanics used in arcade games. The devs need to do better. Spike traps are the same mechanic and broken. Once placed they trigger a mass of larva. Or they are forcing another bad arcade machanic of leveling in order to be able to do common stuff. I wish for the non arcade, but we'll probably get mostly arcade mechanics in a game like this.... At least your arrows stick around longer than 5 secs.

The bow and arrow is only good for small bugs, and for aggro-ing them to fight other creatures.
I enjoy luring them to my direction when I'm on top of a ladybug.

there is no leveling, all items never despawn, spike traps don't trigger larva, killing ants and having food unsecured does seem to though

That bit is really annoying, wish they could add an decomposer insect that eat up what ever has been left behind.

you really do not need to jump off your high ground. Just jumping in your spot seems to mess with the AI. When i am standing still aiming my bow, they run after hitting them once. everytime i jump, they run back to me as i am standing still. then when i land, they turn and run. Jump they come back.

The AI is easy to trick into running away, coming back and getting stuck.

Let me translate this for you.. the ai spider was stuck on a rock unable to target you, after a few hits, realising it couldn't path to you, it reset.

Try the same tactic with a spider on the ground.

or you could actually clean up the enviroment, but dead bugs do despawn if you don't harvest their organs for long enough and leave them there, and also you can delete items by right clicking and choosing delete one or delete stack
