Takes you 2 seconds..
hmmmm if you read the post, which also takes 2 seconds, it said I smack my walls and nothing happens
sounds like my game is bugged then, i'll try creating a new game at some point and try it again
i built an entire fort. i had over 40 larvae attack my base. Im not joking and im literal. I think for some reason everytime i killed one it was respawning 3 at a time. after they left and i killed at least 15 i read somewhere that they are attracted to lights. Havent had an issue since i turned off the lights but idk if its true. Secondly i just built a skybase on a rock and dont need walls. I figured the pallaside walls would be sturdy. they arent. I have had crap spawn in my base as well which annoys the crap out of me and traps do no damage as well that its a joke. Side note thou, the larvae when they moved in a perfect line looked like white train. was cool.
I made an 8 x 8 pallisade wall square, with a pallisade double door on opposite sides. On the inside, i made scaffolds all over the place level with the wall. In each corner i have a plant lamp.
Obviously this alone requires a LOT of stems, and i have had no attacks or interested insects while building all this.
At some point i started putting floors on the inner 6x6 part of the scaffolds. The first night after this, 4 soldier ants showed up running against one of the wall parts. This suggests that they got interested in the floor parts of the building itself, as nothing else had changed during the building process.
Since i was wearing full ant armor (for carrying capacity), they showed no interest in me. I watched all 4 run towards the pallisade wall for a while, and after a short time they all glitched inside the base area. In other words, those walls are currently worth nothing basically.
Since i was wearing the full ant armor and they were not interested in me, i could observe what they "wanted". They ended up settling at the 3,3 coordinate if you imagine the base as a 8x8 grid. The funny thing is, there was nothing there for them to be interested in. Some stems on the ground, and some grass planks on pallets was all. I tried removing the stems but that did not change their behaviour, and the grass pallets they were not interested in either.
This suggests to me that perhaps this pack of 4 soldier ants wasn't actually interested in my experimental base build at all, but just trying to path that way with their pathfinding failing to path around the base. Once they got inside the base area, the pathfinding kicked in again, got confused and they got "stuck".
Conclusion:
- While the game is already pretty darn great, the pathfinding AI as well as proper collision detection needs a good deal of work and is probably partly to blame for the issues people are having with raiding insects.
Edit:
Base diagram to better visualize what i've described:
This game is awesome keep up the good job.
Report to Obsidian. Early Access is fundamentally not about playing the game, but playing it while being an alpha/beta tester and finding and reporting bugs. The game is still 6-12 months away from any sort of real, playable release.
Also, making the thread in the correct sub-forum would probably be helpful: https://steamcommunity.com/app/962130/discussions/2/
i dont post much, so i dont even know if i can close it or not, but i figured it out and this thread can drift away
theres a bug at the minute spike traps spawn larvae at your base
