Appropriate age?
At a glance, this game looks relatively younger age appropriate even if it's potentially complicated. Considering buying it. I don't need a rating, but can someone who has played confirm this game is not dark, gory, or adult oriented in any way? I'm always looking for younger player coop games(e.g. 8 and under) that are not minecraft or roblox and fun for adults too.

It's all age I would say, the only thing scary is the music/sound spider made when you attack/get attacked by one. But if you're really scared by spider you can still activate archania phobia filter and lower the volume, also there is a creative or peaceful (I think it's peaceful not sure) mode like in minecraft when you can play without being attacked by anything.

I've got about 5 hours in it and it's absolutely fine. The spiders are a bit scary and never friendly, so that might cause issues, although there's an option to lower how spiderlike they are, down to a white blob with eyes.

I'm planning to show it to my nephew this weekend, and he's 4. He's liked watching me play Minecraft and BOTW so far.

well I'm a grown man and the spiders have scared me a bunch of times but I figure an 8 year old should be able to handle it. There's some references that will go over the heads of younger children, like one instance of a human skeleton in an ant cave otherwise nothing you wouldn't see in a cartoon aimed at that age range.

Aside from the blood from bugs, the spiders could potentially be kind of too much for some people, they do however have an arachnophobia filter, on max its basically two circles going around.

It definitely seems to be geared towards a younger audience, but not everybody will be able to deal with the spiders, fortunately for them there is a slider that changes the model to a simple shape instead of the eight legged nightmare fuel. Although, the combat is pretty difficult for a kids game so I'd say its definitely a game all ages can enjoy.

Yeah, same as above. Spooky insects, bug-blood, and a few places with skeletons but nothing too startling or severe.

There's a creative mode that's pretty cruisy and with no spiders. Though it does feel a little empty... As for the base game - It can be a bit scary. Those spiders are nightmare fuel and the speed and ferocity of their attacks is quite unsetteling. You can turn them into cutesy bubbles and that helps, but they still are quite agressive.
My kids love the creative mode though and it has us looking at our own garden in a new light.

its appropriate for children, the "hardest" stuff you will find are spiders, bug blood stuff and skeletons, when the kids die they just fall like a plank and disappear

It is a dead children simulator.

...goonies ?
there's a Battletoads figurine, an old music reccord, a few good references to "Honey I shrunk the Kids" movies. There's a lot that would go over the head of a younger audience. but it's the same for a LOT of medias nowaday so it's no big deal.
There's no real gore except insect exploding in parts and goo... but it happens in a lot of kids show too. Spider might be more problematic and nightmare inducing given how violent and aggressive they are but there's the arachnophobia slider that can change that.
Yeah, it CAN be scary for kids. As much as the original Dark Cristal was. But so long as they can recognize "game danger" and react to it IN GAME, they should be perfectly fine. When my cousin was 4-5 years old he frigging beat Majora Mask. While I still can't. and he doesn't speak a word of english yet (he's a around 19 now I believe... not sure.)

When I say Kids, I mean 5-12 years old.
Any kids that can play minecraft can play this no problem. the spider are just a wee bit bigger and slightly more aggressive is all. tell them pigman are ants and they'll avoid killing ants before they feel ready lol.

I wouldn't say E for everyone, but definetly 6+ depending on the individual.

No gore or bad violence. BUT... the Spiders are SCARY! This game has made me jump or scream more than 99% of horror games out there. Especially when its night and there are big Spiders around :)

Its a game anyone of any age can play really imo.
