Tips for a 6k Newbie?
After playing 4k for quite some time (in this game and in other pc rhythm games) i felt i needed more of a challenge and decided to pick up learning 6k. I was right away shocked at how different it is, and i honestly really love it, but my problem is also the fact that it is a lot different than 4k. Right now my main issues that need focus are quickly deciding which finger i need to use for the next key, keeping my fingers resting on the correct keys, and also some patterns that need practice but i dont know the terminology. I have years of experience with Dynamix (for those who know it) and am a high-end player on that game, but found that absolutely none of my skills carried over to this genre of rhythm. If there are any tips i can use feel free to share, and if there are any other pc 6k games ill consider looking at them.
I do not plan to go competitive, i just want to self improve and have fun!

And before you ask, yes ive already played 6k Osu. I found its somewhat alright for getting the basic feel of 6k since there are mods to slow stuff down and prevent failing, but i still prefer DJMax

Well I'm by no means an expert my self my only goal these days is to MC charts, That said I would say key bindings are first and foremost the biggest issue. You should find a key binding pattern that lets you move your hands as easily and freely as possible.

That's pretty much the only tip I can give my 8K keybinding is different from my 4,5,6 and it seems to have made me get a bit more accurate on 8k.

I'd say it mostly comes down to learning to recognise patterns and then executing the movement with your fingers.

For pattern recognition, it's one of those learn more by playing more [variety]. Even if one song might have a lower difficulty, it's also beneficial to play those songs to see how they vary the patterns. Also I found that if you were a high scroll speed player like I was, try tuning it down to give yourself more time to read the notes (I'm personally at 4.5x which I know is a lot slower than others.)

Movement execution is a more deliberate matter for me. If I can't seem to execute on a pattern, I'll picture it in my head and just try to get myself to tap (on the table) in that pattern's order. Slowly going faster once I feel comfortable. Not sure if it's in your skill range but I remember really enjoying v o l d e n u i t's 6K MX pattern as a movement execution test when I was transitioning to 6K.

I've been playing since Fever on PSP and have mostly stuck to 4K myself, only finally getting more comfortable with 6 and 8K recently.

It's really just the same as learning 4K. Keep at it and it'll happen.

Don't be afraid to "start over" and play easy songs again, working your way up from the bottom like you did with 4K. You can still challenge yourself by focusing on timing and aiming for Perfect Play while you build muscle memory in your ring fingers.

Consider lowering the note speed a few notches from what you're used to at 4K. Just giving your brain that extra split second to process what's on screen can really help a lot.

If I think of any more I'll let you know, though as I'm sure you're already aware it really just comes over time with practice. Good luck!

Also another thing I'd suggest while you're getting used to 6K, if there's a particular song or pattern that you just can't wrap your brain (or fingers) around, don't stress out and spend a bunch of time on it trying to force your hands to do things they don't want to yet, just move on and come back to it when you've levelled up.

Key binding is something usefull: i use wef-jio, with A and the key right to L for the "spin". I find this binding more "relaxing". Next, play at you actual level, with time (like 5/10 hours) you should learn to associate your fingers to what you see. First difference is the key pressed with your middle finger is in a different color from ring and index, so your brain will start to read that feature too and react more fast.

But yes, 6k is totally another game, you should restart from the beginning (not so true, you will progress faster than your first time with 4K), but this mode is so much more enjoyable that it will justify your efforts.

Middle fingers are the other color. Concentrate on the color and eventually you will hit the right button on your own. Similar to 8B, choosing notes you can read well matters here.
