Does Neowiz have a history of shutting down their servers?
I am tempted to buy the game on ps4 if the developers didn't bother making their game playable offline in the past. Since the PC version depends on the servers I am not sure if I should buy it.

They killed DJMax Ray and Technika Q and left it without the ability to play it offline.

If you want to play it play offline guaranteed, then yes, get the PS4 version.

PC Version is locked to online only because of the stupid DRM.

Does it matter that the games they shut down have been on android? I don't see android as a "real" platform for a serious gaming company. If they saw it doesn't make money anymore they shut it down.

You can still play Trilogy offline, though. And that's on PC, too..

Neowiz is online gaming developer, (MMORPG, FPS...)
I think it's happened many times in the past...

Nope. I do have a PS4 but I'm not spending another dime on the franchise until they remove the DRM or have an offline option. I didn't do my homework and it's too late to get a refund now, but I'll find other options. If someone doesn't develop a crack, then I guess I'll just hold out until PS4 emulation is viable and download a copy then.

Yeah you can still play on PS4 even if neowiz shut down their server. So they nerfed the PS4 version to make it inferior to PC version.
Splendid.

I'm super late to this thread, and I don't mean to revive something so dead, but I saw this on Google just now and wanted to give a definitive answer.

Yes, Neowiz has a long history of shutting down their servers, even with DJMAX specifically. DJMAX Online was the first DJMAX game, and that's been shut down for a very long time. Some people can still play it with fan-made servers, but Neowiz shut that down ages ago and has not looked back.

DJMAX Trilogy was the next DJMAX game to come to PC with online play, and the servers for that have also been long shut down. There was a small point in time where somebody was trying to make a fan-made server for it, called DJMAX Trilogy REBORN, but I don't think it's active anymore. You can still play DJMAX Trilogy singleplayer, but the online component is long gone.

There were also DJMAX Ray and Technika Q as stated above, and yeah those are gone.

And then there's the "Portable" series of games for PSP (Portable 1, 2, 3, Clazziquai, Black Square, Hot Tunes, & Fever (I... THINK that's all of them?)). I actually busted out my old PSP to test this myself, and I can't tell if they're functional or not? Either they don't work anymore and the multiplayer option just ACTS like it's trying to connect to another player, or nobody is playing DJMAX Portable LOL. I'm also not even sure if all of them HAD online. I booted up Portable 3 on my Vita, and it completely lacked the option. Either it didn't have it at all in the first place, or they removed the option when they re-released Portable 3 on the online Playstation store.

I REEEAAAALLLLLLLLLLY hope Neowiz has an end-of-life plan for RESPECT V, it's easily my favorite in the DJMAX series of games. It'd suck for the servers to just disappear one day, and have this game just rot in my steam library.

I can guarantee that DJMAX Portable games still work online using Ad-Hoc (? forgot the name) mode. I played with a friend not even a month ago. The reason it doesn't work for you is because Sony shut the PSP servers down so actual online using PSN doesnt work.

I don't think it's going to shut down any time soon since they only recently implemented 90 day long seasons with battle passes, so we're good for a good while.

Oh yeah, I didn't mean to imply that they were gonna shut down the servers any time soon. I just play rhythm games wayyy past their due date (I still play Stepmania 3.9 & Trilogy, just for funsies), so it'd suck to see RESPECT V unplayable.

Technika Q and Ray got shut down, but these are mobile games. There is the possibility the PC version (and ps4) will continue to run with an online only check system but removing the online matches (so neowiz can conserve money)

Steam is the go-to place for pc gaming and plenty of players have invested in this game. It wouldnt be wise for neowiz to shut it down. They will receieve a lot of backlash.

100% correct. This company's anti-consumer tactics is something that truly should be condemned. They don't trust their fans. They want full control of when you can play or not. These people running the games make Ubisoft/EA/Activision-Blizzard/Bethesda etc look like Mother Teresa.

It's all outcome of piracy back in the days in late 1990 thru early 2000s.
Same reason why most Korean game developers only made online and mobile games until popularity of Steam went up in Korea.

Djmax trilogy does have unoffical version floating around. eventually the drm for this will be cracked. its just a pain in the ass becuase they use overly strict drm.

But Trilogy isn't game as a live service though. Just a USB dongle DRM.

This game, however. Unless someone reverse-engineers the server, or someone leaks it, or they make the game available offline later(which I doubt they would). You won't be able to play the game after they shut down their service.

There has been a history of people reverse engineering servers for rhythm games so it wouldnt surprise me
