What's the point of passive abilities that trigger on life loss?

What's the point of abilities like the Elite Defender's attack speed increase, or the Bomb Blitz on life loss? Every single one of them is in a price category where if the bloons manage to get to the end of the track it instantly ends the game.

For Bomb Blitz, only use I could think of it maybe something to do with races, and I haven't even been able to utilize it there despite trying. For Elite Defender, the tower can be acquired early enough that you might see it save you from a game over.

They seem like an extra feature just thrown in there to make the Tier 5 feel special.

Yeah, by the time you can afford a T5, your effective health becomes binary. The only way I could see these abilities even do anything is if every bloon dealt one heart of damage regardless of size.

theres quite a few towers that let you get more lives, like druids, marketplaces, or corvus's mana shield. ezili also has an ability that lets you loose lives on demand. bomb blitz wipe out rounds like 98 or 96 if a ceramic leaks before everything else.

the Lych soul also saps lives piecemeal while it is out. Lych will heal off the Elite defender self buff, but Bomb Blitz works just fine.

The Elite Defender passive is uniquely suited to countering Vortex, and to a lesser extent, Phayze. Bomb blitz isn't particularly suited to anything but does have a synergy with Ezili and Corvus where it's basically a ground zero at home. Pretty much only used for custom challenges.

It doesn't matter if you have 100 lives or 10 000. If you get a leak in round 80+ you lose.

Ok, the Ezili synergy does sound useful. I haven't unlocked her yet, but I'll keep it in mind.

Ok, the Ezili synergy does sound useful. I haven't unlocked her yet, but I'll keep it in mind.

Yeah it seems like an Elizi specific thing. With the exception of maybe a couple custom maps or something.

Yes it does matter. 10k lives is quite a lot, and if one ceramic gets through when you have bomb blitz and enough lives to tank the bloon you will probably live

No. Normally the Elite Defender's ability can only be triggered once every 10 seconds. The upgrade only removes this cooldown.

or if its tier 5, where buff-steal is global
