3 mil pops hurts the fun of new content
I get that 3 mil pops isn't that much but I'm a casual bloons player. I'm not big challenge mode type so it is taking hours to unlock the Mermonkey which makes it feel like homework to do. Locking new content behind a grind/paywall makes coming back to the game less fun and I'll do it less if it keeps stacking up. (trust me, I've played ow2)

Why does 1 pop not equal 1 pop?
I'm pretty sure it doesn't count damage dealt to MOABs.

I've got 1,000+ hours in this game across steam and mobile and have done nearly everything there is to do in single-player bloons. I very, very rarely play anymore. Just don't have the time or interest that I used to. The one and only reason I opened BTD6 was to play with the new tower because I've been wanting a mermonkey for years. By the time I got 3,000,000 pops, I was already burnt out. Needing to play through like 8 different games to round 100 just to use the new toy that I showed up for? Not fun.

It would be nice if max leveled players had an option to unlock new towers without the grind. But I get it, they want people like me to spend $$$. Feels bad, man.

Also, people saying "just do freeplay"... lol. I got to round 200 in freeplay and was just only a third of the way done. It's not as quick as you're all pretending it is.
you do realise you dont have to do it in one sitting?
The range is better in water but yeah this is not a great unit. Amphibious isnt all its cracked up to be. We have plenty of water and plenty of land units at this point.
I know they keep saying they will never do the bloon chipper but honestly thats all I want at this point.
genuinly, i got it done by going on logs with ben, rushing a 25x druid and 1x5 ninja and then econ for paragons. if you can handle a round of logs on hard, you can go into round 250 with paragons without much thought. got all the pops i needed without much effort

I think the answer here was "sure, put a challenge, but maybe for the ppl who already have, y'know, 100Ms if not Bs of pops ... just unlock it?"

In fact, overall, just a solution scaled to each individual player's experience lvl sounds kinda sensible.

As for the monetization angle, tho, they probably wanted to leave every available incentive for ppl to actually pay cash but I doubt most players who are "advanced" enough to rly want the tower that bad are going to pay anything near USD$8 for something that can be unlocked by playing a handful of games w/ the right settings.

I just had to play 3 or 4 medium games untill I lost on each one (which was round 100+) to unlock it.
In a game like this I dont care much for "unlocking". Just lemme have access to everything. OR, use those story missions to unlock and upgrade a new tower, which would make sense.
just make it work like all the other monkeys
also i've unlocked it and Symphonic Resonance in door-gunner is goofy.

Was hoping to jump on and try this, instead I'm stuck with a boring as ♥♥♥♥ grind for no reason that I'm still only halfway through despite completing multiple levels into Freeplay.

These last few updates have been a total flop frankly. They keep trying to make these wildly complex heroes that just end up being absolutely terrible or underwhelming unless you're prepared to spend hours understanding how they work.

NK suck at implementing new stuff, hence the Unique Daily Challenges achievement that wasn't retroactive.
I agree with others. It's too much grind.

It's one of the "Experiments" in the game. 5 rounds with 50 boss bloons in each round (50 MOABs, 50 BFBs, and so on). So, 250 boss bloons total, but with all the bloons that come out of them, you get many thousands of pops (over a million total, I guess).

Of course this only works if you've gotten to the point where you can beat all those bosses.
you dont even have to beat the final wave
this game from day 1 has required more than an hour to unlock all content. very confused why you expect that any additional content added would follow the same formula as the rest of the game

Just play a few maps with freeplay. I had some good fun unlocking it. I even got new borders on the maps for playing.

A couple of games to 100 and your done. Honestly, I just did one game and kept going till i lost and it was over 2 mil. Another game and it was done.

I just played casually while watching youtube while bloons were getting popped.
