how do armor piercing rounds not pop leads

after 200 hours into the game i just realized xx4 subs don't pop leads. what other ♥♥♥♥♥♥ armor are you piercing with that you're literally shooting at rubber or cloth

fortified, ceramic, and moab all sound armored to me
That particular upgrade is not intuitive in regards to metal.

they nerfed it at one point so it doesn't pop lead anymore, but didn't change the name. also, 'armor piercing' sounds like metal piercing to me.
