Why do pets and placements only work with default skins, have NK ever given a reason?

They don't only work with default skins.

They only work with the skin they were designed to be thematically connected to.

Not only the default skins have cosmetics: cyber Quincy and DJ Benjamin have the placement one and Pirate Brickell have the parrot pet.
They add more cosmetics every update so there will be more for everyone.

entrances make sense of course, normal Ben with a DJ Ben entrance would look weird.
Pets on the other hand are lame that they can't be mixed. They are a simple cosmetic and still fit the hero regardless of skin
Also limiting player expression for an arbitrary reason is lame, If they've spent the stuff on it let them mix it. Most games don't limit players with cosmetics like this.

If you accept that DJ Ben entrance doesn't work with regular Ben entrance, why should it make sense for Pirate Bricknells parrot to hang out with Admiral Bricknell?

Because it's just a bird, she's still water themed so it makes sense, not only pirates own birds. even with someone like ezili the frog still fits her voodo theme even with the cat skin.
Also it doesn't even matter if you don't think they fit, there is literally no downside to letting players mix cosmetics, TF2 and other games with cosmetics don't stop players mixing cosmetics because the themes don't match or something.

I don't think it is fair to judge about it as NK DO keep releasing new stuff for Trophy Store. If we just releasing everything at once, players would rather get stressed out by the sheer amount of individual pets.

I can't really agree with the cosmetic sharing part when my precious snow fox get burnt so badly.

Just because other games allow you to look like a total clown, doesn't mean everything should.
NK have gone with themes and allowing you to accessorise said themes further. Is it really that important that you can't use RoombaCat with ETn?

counter point: would it really be that important if you could? If you enjoy games limiting you for no good reason then have fun with that.
If you think the theme of the flamethrower welding monkey popping balloons with a fox pet is ruined because the monkey is now dressed as a harlequin, then that's a pretty weird place to draw the line. Just because you enjoy less freedom and choices doesn't mean the rest of the player base does :P

It's a decision by NK to only allow thematic pets with the associated skin. You don't have to like it and you're welcome to have an opinion on it, but stop trying to make out that your civil liberties are being infringed.
