its not that simple
in addition, his passive ability neutralizes the first MOAB which is extremely important for games and challenges with limited tower availability
the downside to ben is your weaker at the start, stronger midgame, and weaker late
He isn't always the best choice, it's sometimes better just to plop Quincy down on round one and not worry until round 19, rather than get Benjamin. Assuming this is single player non-chimps or something.
the most broken stuff in this game is basicly everything wich heavily fiddels with income/money, that's why benjamin is inherently broken
if you directly compare him to other heroes as a stand alonetower he'll loose, but benjamin generates money.. provides bonus interest so to speak.. and money = firepower
Benjamin also don't offer any actual support power, and you have to snowball the economy in order to be effective. It is also very boring to go to a state of "over-eco" too much, while learning lesser to tackle on CHIMPS mode.
Even on R101+ Freeplay, you don't need economy at some point, you want buff for VTSG instead, like Brickell.
I think a much fair way to say this is, going a state of over-eco will often lead players to just buy the best upgrades. This is from a recent Half Cash Puddle thread, where a player with Double Cash mode don't really understand how to tackle Half Cash mode. It is mainly because of having too many cash on hand! Which is why I don't suggest using Benjamin and any economy except Discounts in order to learn this game.
Judging Hero like Striker Jones with low accuracy attack isn't the right way to play this game. Most heroes shine because they have a more sustainable support power, as what the OP said. Using Benjamin is basically having no hero but flowing with cash, and flowing with too much cash question a player's future decision making. Questioning tower's value, questioning the bloon popping cash, etc...
So I don't really agree with this:
If you only play Medium, I suppose. The game essentially hands you the keys to the kingdom past round 74. Really, could just sit pretty 'till then with an Alchemist buffing any cheap DPS like Ninja or Sub.
the village has a big footprint and is hard to place down in a decent spot, and the 2 upgrades to get camo detection can cost more than $4000, and provides extremely limited range that your monkey may not even get the buffs because the footprint is too far away.
with etienne, his footprint is smaller, he attacks right away, and his camo detection is everywhere so you don't have to cram tons of towers in inconvenient spots just to get the buffs.
