Why is benjamin the most popular hero?

Seriously. Half of all people in coop games use him.

Ignoring the "is he a good hero or not" discussion (he isnt, he is worse than having no hero) what about him attracts people to dropping 3000 of their hard earned monkey money on him?

What? Monkey Money is utterly trivial to obtain and the first thing you should be doing is unlocking them all. This has absolutely zero bearing on the use of a hero.

Ben gives extra cash and coop obviously reduces how much you get, so people immediately think it's a good idea without considering any other factors.

Oh, and if you don't want this to turn into a discussion about whether he's a good hero or not, perhaps you should not call him bad in your OP? "Here is my opinion, but please don't discuss it" doesn't work.

no, he is. The whole point of ben is easy reliable cash generation, and in coop your cash generation sucks. ben basically gives you enough bonus money to get over that.

Benj generates money. In co-op, getting money is extremely slow and it isn't fun when you have to wait a long time to be able to place or upgrade anything. Additionally, because money takes so long to generate, players won't give each other money. His abilities also help quite a lot with weakening bloons, since most co-op matches don't go into freeplay, or will end a few waves into it.

Hi,
i play most time co-op just for fun. I use ben because he helps making money faster than other heroes. So i could buy earlier/more expensive towers like i want (not best practice way, just what make me fun). And i think that is the point for a lot of players: more money --> more degree of free to buy towers and have fun.
Usually i buy ben and farm money by banana farms first and just buy necessary towers, later i buy towers i like and level to max.
Btw, i know that in chimps usually best way to win is not using Ben.

1. Co-Op is essentially Half Cash. Ben is good at Half Cash.

2. Hero XP is split between players in Co-Op. Ben earns money immediately compared to how lots of Heroes are quite weak when Hero XP is split.

3. Ben is simple: place, earn money, forget. His activated abilities are not essential, and Bloon Trojan objectively weakens MOABs. Also regenerates lives.

4. Ben makes it so you don't have to worry about placement or strict Hero strategy.

5. While Ben earns only you money every round, Ben's Skimming and Bank Hack passive abilities is actually split between multiple players. You help your entire team a little bit.

6. You can't trust randoms to have a solid strategy every game. Ben is consistent to you, and does help the team overall. (I prefer Striker Jones with a competent partner)

Because he is the best. He basically doubles the money you get from bloons, giving you almost the amount of money you would get from playing solo. This increases your money output by a lot, making him probably the most valuable hero in coop.
