Obyn is a good hero early game. He also buffs magic type and specially druids in particular. Anything outside that. He is below average hero.

it could also be the unlock requirement. A lot easier to unlock a hero with a level requirement than purchasing a new one.

Obyn carries alot of the early game rounds by himself, he has an amazing bouncing attack and he also boosts magic monkies. Which by the time you start playing CHIMPS you will be using Obyn for specific strategies that mainly focuses on certain magic monkies because he buffs them by just existing near them.

Either way regardless of game mode or if your playing solo or co-op he is a very solid hero that just happends to be free and imo is superior to Gwen and slightly better early game then Quincy for co-op exlusively.

Obyn is a generally strong hero for early game as he can pop lead, his homing attack is rather powerful, and his abilities are useful for building a defence while saving up cash too. Not to mention he ignores line of sight and can attack through walls. His slowing totems that he throws out are a little helpful as well.

The main power of Obyn however, is his supporting ability for Druids and Super Monkeys. Nearby Druids get +1 pierce, and later on, this upgrades to give all magic monkeys in his range +2 pierce. This further helps Super Monkey Sun Avatars when they take the Knockback upgrade, as it allows each shot to pierce up to 8 Bloons in total and spread the knockback and slowing effects to large groups.

Because he used too boost all Magic monkeys at level 3 which was pretty insane and he was cheaper so you could just throw him down at the start in chimps^^ i use him sometimes too but he isnt my go to hero either...
